I just read that only open or peep sights are allowed for centerfire hunting of big game in the state of Nevada.
Why?

That can't be true.
Here are the Nevada hunting regs:
I don't see it.
To even hunt in Nevada one would need a scope. It's not like a wooded area where you could stalk and get within 100 yds.
Here's the link to the Nevada Big Game Guide .... scroll down to "Sights" it says:
Only open sights or peep sights are permitted; scopes prohibited. A sight that is operated or powered by a battery, electronics or a radioactive isotope such as tritium is prohibited.
That's during a muzzle loader only hunt, and even then there is a variance for disable shooters.
Heads up, guys, if you're making a big game hunt with a smokepole in Nevada, plan on using open sights.
Muzzle-loading Rifle and Musket
(Refer to NACs 503.142 & 503.145)
During a “Muzzle-loader-Only” Hunt:
Caliber
Firearm must have a single barrel of .45 caliber or larger.
Ignition
Wheel-lock, matchlock, or flintlock ignition system, or percussion ignition system that uses a primer or percussion cap; (in-lines are permitted.)
Legal Projectile
Lead ball, lead bullet, semi-jacketed bullet or a metal alloy bullet that expands. A saboted round may be used.
Sights
Only open sights or peep sights are permitted; scopes prohibited. A sight that is operated or powered by a battery, electronics or a radioactive isotope such as tritium is prohibited.
FOR muzzle loaders only.
That is for muzzleloaders.
I just have to ask...............why would a scope on a modern muzzle loading rile be prohibited?
Who knows but the powers that be. Why get a clean kill when you have a better chance to wound an animal, makes no sense...to me.
Muzzleloading season was created as a "primitive weapons" season. Powers that be want to keep it primitive.
Our M/L season here in Oregon is traditional also. No scopes, only open sights, and fiber optic sights only became legal a few years ago. Heck, you can't even wear modern clothing, it's buckskin, and coonskin caps only......
Yep, some law makers do not even hunt, but cannot call them tree huggers in Nevada, no trees.
I love PA traditional flintlock season.
Can you even buy a blaze orange buckskin jacket with fringes . . . or do you have to make that by hand in your cabin before you can apply for a hunting license?
Is it acceptable to drive your vehicle . . . or do you have to ride a horse?
I mean . . . you know . . . cuz . . . rules . . . and stuff.
no one forces anyone to hunt traditional/primitive season which traditionally is ,as it was when these arms were the norm for hunting.🤔
you need to use modern day accessories on your muzzle loader , hunt with it during the regular gun season, "problem" solved.😁
Iowa doesn't have a primitive weapons season. It has an early and a late muzzleloader season.
And inline muzzleloader technology predates your fancy flintlocks.
Harrumph...
