I made the payment of $1675 via Zelle to the seller as requested, she became less active towards my emails after she received the Zelle transfer.

She disabled her account today! When I realize this is a fraud, I tried to contact Gunbroker.com, my chase bank and Zelle rep. Neither Chase or Zelle and dispute this transaction as the money has been out to the seller's account. Gunbroker.com has not yet responded to me after I sent multiple requests online.

Is there a customer service number i can reach out to Gunbroker.com?

I just lost $1675 here, and this is my 1st order on Gunbroker.com

Everybody, even the employee in the range told me Gunbroker.com is safe

im so frustrated right now

I used to buy a lot on GB and considered it very safe, with all the stories I've seen regarding the scammers I haven't bought anything in awhile. However if you read the sticky regarding scams and shop with sellers who have a history of A+ you should be safe.

I have purchased quite a bit on the auction side and with one exception have been very happy with every seller. Got burnt once, but it was due to a seller who was willing to lie, and a buyer (me) who wanted something more than I should have wanted it.

I wish you luck in a resolution, but if the seller has disabled her GB account, there is very little GB can do. There is always the option of filing a suit in her jurisdiction, but odds are you are going to spend more than you are out.

    Sadly, people can be jerks.

Gunbroker is a great place to buy, but like any auction site, care needs to be used in making a transaction. Unfortunately, nefarious folk are apt to take advantage of situations like this-- where there are many, many new buyers-- and perpetrate their ill will. It's not a reflection on Gunbroker, just the times. So far as I know, GB is doing all they can to clamp down on scammer type activity, as one would expect. No system is perfect though and there are always risks in buying... even in person, so if that were your expectation, you must be new to the realm of online purchasing.

As for the note at the top of your post: posting names and addresses, etc. are DISallowed in the forums.

We feel for you. We don't know if there are a bunch of scammers using this venue, or just one person. We haven't heard of anyone successful in running down this low life.

You needed to read Zelle's fine print: It may not be used for firearms & ammunition. And, they warn us, Zelle should be used only to send money to someone you know & trust.

Auction problems need to be handled by Gunbroker Support. Unfortunately, the Forums can not assist you. Gunbroker does have a Buyer Protection Program but won't cover your entire loss. Still, become familiar with it and be patient with Support. Contact them again if you haven't heard back soon. Best of luck to you.

    What the heck is Zelle?

  • mark christianmark christian Member Posts: 24,443 ✭✭✭✭

David, it's an electronic payment service which is something like PayPal, which is owned by several banks, including PNC, which I bank with. Zelle enables individuals to electronically transfer money to another registered user's bank account (within the United States) using a mobile device or the website of a participating bank, let's say your bank to mine (feel free to send me some $$$ 😉).

Just like PayPal, Zelle doesn't like guns or ammunition, and they don't like other things which they call "weapons." What exactly is a weapon? Zelle won't tell you...they'll surprise you.
