I've noticed that this ammunition has appeared. Does anybody know when the rifles will appear?

It is an interesting round.
I think competition is always good, but at the end of the day its a short action 300 Win Mag. for ballistics.
I fail to see that there's much diff between this and the 270 WSM. Am I missing something?
If you plan on getting one, I'd buy all the ammo you can now. Look at the PRC situation, chambering's took off, rifles were built, and now it's about $100/box. You can always sell it later if you decide you don't want it.
Its a short action.
Which for me is not a big deal- if you do your job it should only take one round.
The new 6.8 was designed from the ground up to use longer and heavier bullets than the 270wsm. Longer bullets with increased sectional density for an improved ballistic coefficient. It is for the guys who want to shoot at stuff waaayy out there. Personally since I already have both a 270wsm and a 300wsm and don't intend on shooting at anything farther away than they will perform nicely - I'll pass. Bob
I do expect it to be an absolute tac driver.
I'm still happy with a plain old .30/06.
Just read an article that claims 6% more energy at 500 yards than a .300 Win. Mag. and 16% less recoil. That seems to defy the laws of physics!

Well maybe it bends them a bit. I would guess the higher ballistic coefficient maintains velocity a lot better at 500 yds. It ain't how much energy you start with but how much you still have at the end. Bob
When you check the cartridge drawings, you find that the only difference between the 6.8 & the .270 WSM is that the case body of the 6.8 is .100" shorter than the WSM (yes, it's a smaller case!). Rifling twist is 1-8" as opposed to 1-10" for the WSM and the cartridge is loaded with longer, heavier bullets.
But does anybody remember the Speer 170 gr. RN for the ,270? I have a pretty good quantity of them since they were not popular and, years ago, a gun shop was trying to get rid of them so I bought them cheap. They shoot very well in most of my .270's at around 2650 fps. But, of course, the cartridges look funny with that skinny RN bullet sticking out there. And one may well ask, "What's a heavy RN bullet for in a .270?" I guess it may have been for the "brush-buster" theory of days gone by.
