weed eater carb question

CaneyRiverDogCaneyRiverDog Member Posts: 147 ✭✭

I had to replace the fuel line grommet on my weedeater. The grommet goes in the gas tank and the two fuel lines run through it. I found a grommet that had fuel lines with it so thats the one I bought, the lines were getting a little brittle any way. There's a yellow line and the longer black line with the fuel filter. The yellow one only went about 2 inches into the tank. I marked the black line on the carb and swapped everything out. Gassed it back up and it took a lot of work to get started. Weedeated the yard but it didn't seem to run like it did. So I've worked on it for about an hour and it still acts like its not getting good gas supply/ bogs down.

Any suggestions? I reused the fuel filter cause it was running fine. Is there a certain length the short yellow fuel line should be? I couldn't measure what was on it cause the line disintegrated when I removed them. The link is the fuel line and grommet I bought and the carb that's on it. For the sake of sanity, which one should the yellow line connect to on this carb? Maybe I marked them wrong?? Im running out of ideas.

As close as the carb connections are, can't you just swap them real fast?

I would think they are on the right pipes since you wacked the yard. maybe a carb adjustment.

the short line is a fuel return to the tank. just needs to be long enough to b inside the tank. do you have the correct tool to adjust the mixture? i fix a lot of these things and find if it wont adj correctly or for a lot of other problems the best course of action is just to replace the carb, fuel lines, filter. these parts are very available and reasonably priced on the net, usually as a kit. you can also buy a set of tools to adjust the carb mixture.

If its a carb problem I shouldve just ordered a new carb too.... it wouldve only been another $7 for a new carb and fuel filter. I dont have the tool to adjust the carb but never dreamed it would need all that from just changing the leaking grommet. I could be wrong and thats why Im asking for help. I have now took the carb apart and cleaned it out, Thinking maybe got garbage in carb before I started the replacement. I blew everything out out and cleaned everything real good as I went along. I dont have another fuel filter and thats what Im leaning towards. Its the original about 10-12 years old.

BUT wanted your opinions cause the filter is $7 locally and that whole set on amazon is $16.25. That will be a new carb and all.

the leaking grommet and possible failing carb are not directly related but as the carb ages it will need some adjustment to keep up. new carbs usually come in adjusted fairly close to right but if you continue to use the gas engines it helps to learn how to adjust them. has saved the day many times for me.

Run ethanol free fuel and your small engines will be happier.

I never use ethanol in any engine I own. In fact Ive only used the canned premix fuel in this weedeater and my leaf blower..
