and probably won't kill anything bigger than a jackalope, and a 2 1/2 power scope is too weak for shooting past about 25 yards, but it is a nice rifle.

Just sold one last night right here. Some experts,😙,,give them a bad rap but I have had good luck with them.
It better be a pretty small jackalope because of it being chambered in 30/06. Or maybe a pretty big jackalope so you can find it in that 2 1/2 power scope. 😁
That combo has been a north woods whitetail staple for decades and it should do well. Bob
Might I ask why you think it won't kill anything larger than a jackalope or was that meant to be green font?
because Elmer Keith said so.
Jackalopes around here are fairly large:
Good thing Florida deer are not very big or I would have to sell my 30-06
I have a Rem. 700 I bought new in 1995. Broke it in, in the proper manor and put a Lupold 3.5-10X50 on top. Had the bolt and barrel reworked and it's a real tack driver.
Classic east of the Mississippi deer rifle. From Main to Mississippi they have harvested more deer than can be counted. I am in and I don't even hunt anymore.
Is the gun even legal in Canada?
Outbid and watching now to see where it goes.
If I was restricted to one gun , it would be a 30/06 as long as I could hand load for it
Bought my Dad a new 742 in 1977 for his birthday/Fathers Day present.. retirement present from GM.. Didn't know he had cancer a few months later. Never got to go hunting with it.
Kick is usually stiff on them models, especially if a 220 gr bullet..
Bump...
I have one 742 and a 760 both 30-06
from what I have read over the years the 742 gets a bad reputation from the bolt guides and locking groves wear out then the gun is just a parts gun no way to replace all the worn away metal
they were never meant to go on the popular " ammo dump " like a military style rifle hundreds of rounds at a time or each year that just wears them out and people blame the gun for something it was not designed to do . flip side the rifles used to fire a dozen or so rounds hunting and sighting in each year and kept clean and oiled last a life time or two .
lack of proper CLEANING kills most of them, you have to remove the barrel to do this.
I have a 760 that started out as a 30-06 but now lives as a 35 WAI. Don
Just an old punchline; 30 aut 6 or aut 7, what ever it takes.
I have one of those and it's a tack driver.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And as Lindsay Cooper Wisdom said-
"There's not many things that a man cain't fix-
with seven hundred dollars and a thirty ought six."
I had a Model 4 in aut6, loved it till it was stolen. I heard it went ro Ky.
Ooops, fat fingers!
