Popularity on a down turn. Lately if I find a good deal on a rifle that is what it is chambered for and I have actually have won auctions for 7mm ammo for less then 25.00 dollars a box recently

I am in southern, Il. and my two local shops usually don't carry more than two of anything above the 270 unless you literally give it to them. I believe with no scientific proof that a lot of the larger calibers are being passed on right now because people are buying the SHTF 's firearms and not even looking at the great hunting calibers. I was loaded with 30:06s I got from the stores and have sold a few here for not a lot of money. The 7mag to me is a great round but do I need one at my age? YMMV.

No idea if sales are off or not but I suspect you are right . Our generation is getting wiser and realizing we don’t need that much recoil . The younger folks only want the latest greatest stuff to shoot at deer from a mile away so the 6.5 and such sells like hot cakes . The gun rags promote the new stuff , creating demand . When was the last article you saw praising the 06 or the 7 mag?

If recoil is an issue install a muzzle brake. Shot quite a few rds thru the 300 Win Mag and it kicks like a 243

Hearing protection is a must when shooting a HP rifle with or without a brake

The 7mm Remington Magnum was born in the era of high velocity, long range, ultra powerful rifle cartridges. Since then, a lot of us have learned that it really can't make anything more dead than a 30-06, 270, or even a 30-30 can.

I may be the only gun writer (now retired) who never owned or hunted with anything larger than a .308 Win. Nor any magnum handgun round except the .357. I also never considered taking a shot over 300 yards, and darn few that far.

I hunted with people who believed in shooting at any deer they could see. Out here, that could be nudging a half-mile. I vociferously argued against that, but to no avail. Off my soap box...

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

For deer most of my hunting is done with a lever gun with 35 Remington being one of my favorites or the 444. Last year I used something that shoots little flatter and used the 6.5 grendel. I have killed a lot of cardboard and milk jugs with the 7mm at 400 yards that is as far as the range goes

Been toting a Remington BDL 7mm mag for over 55 years, reward for forking out many loads of cow sheet out of the barn stables.

Never failed me a many ranges. Deer, Bear and an occasionally woodchuck. I have hand loaded for it most of it's life.

I have a 243 and 220 Swift. Never seen either one ot them mist a hog but the 7mm will do it every time.

I even fire of a 7mm STW just for fun and games. Now there is DRT firearm.

If you are looking for a used 7Mag, pay close attention to the lead and throat area as many have significant wear.

The 7 and 300 mags are still popular and are not going away anytime soon. Both are flat shooting and will take anything in North America with the right bullet and a well placed shot
