Great picture.
Damn-Somewhere I have that same photo of me. My Mom told me some guy used to come by in the neighborhoods with a pony and for a minimum fee would take a photo!
Had the Fanner 50 and hat. never had the pony
You shoulda grown up to be Willie or Waylon. They made a lot more money than Cowboys. Bob
Willie can't have had THAT much money. Have you seen that beat up piece of junk guitar he played?
I had the pony. When he decided he was done with me riding him he would just straight up buck me off or head to a creek at full speed and stop with his head down.
Meanest horse I ever rode.
Later in life I was a team roper and calf roper. Won a few at the state fairs from Del Mar to Ventura.

Have you seen that beat up piece of junk guitar he played?

I had all the cowboy gear including holstered 6 shooters at about the same age. My horse "Rocked" and the worse thing he could do to me was give me splinters! 😁
My horse was a stick with a piece of leather tied on one end to serve as "reins". I galloped my horse all over my neighborhood just as fast as I could run!! ☺️ This was part of what I now realize was a wonderful childhood. I didn't understand how good I had it. Why would I?? That was just what was normal when I was a little kid.
I feel ever so sorry for todays children. When was the last time a couple of stick riding cowboys galloped by your house?? 😔
I grew up on horseback. Broke quite a few colts in my younger years. Was a trainer in a local stable for a while. Owned some good horses(and bad ones). Was part of a "custom cow catching crew" in the mid to late 70's which got pretty hairy at times. Finally "grew out of the cowboy way" when it wasn't paying the bills, sold my horses, and raised cattle that followed a feed bucket instead of being "wrangled" into the corral.
Can't even throw a rope these days due to a bad shoulder nor can I sit a saddle due to problems with a hip replacement. Went out of the cattle business because I'm not physically able to do all the things required to take care of the critters.
My current "horse" has 2 seats & a roof, allows me to slide in rather than climb on, hauls 500#, pulls a trailer, and only eats when it's running.
Did the cowboy / horse thing during two stages of life . Owned some decent rides . Marriage took care of the horses and I switched to motorcycles
+1... 😁
