Help with Winchester Super Grade 70

Ricci.WrightRicci.Wright Member Posts: 5,127 ✭✭✭✭

Just got a .375 H&H Super Grade model 70 s/n 189,740, so 1951?? Anyway the bolt is jeweled and the bolt handled is nickel or chrome. Does this sound right to you experts?? Should the bolt be serial numbered to the rifle?? It is a beautiful rifle and I think unfired. Thanks.

My only Super grade is a .300 H&H made in 2/49. Your rifle was made in late June, 1951 (approximately 2000 rifles were made between 6/4/51 & 7/9/51). Your rifle in .375 H&H, should have a 25" barrel, the bolt should NOT be jeweled, and the bolt handle should be blued. The serial number is electro- penciled on my bolt. Jeweling of bolt, follower, etc. on Super grades did not start until after 1954. Above information is from Roger Rule's book.
