Young magpies are now airborne and being shown by the adults how to raid the dog feeder in my hounds kennel.
Day before yesterday, shortly after first light, my Brute a bluetick walker dog caught one in the feeder and disassembled the magpie all over the kennel.
Then this morning I was walking back from feeding horses and come up on a freshly killed magpie in the yard. Got back to the house and wife told me that she was one the back deck looking toward the kennel when this young magpie flew off the top of the kennel headed for our yellow plum trees, when out of no where came my Idaho * "Jim" and he launched and caught the bird in flight.
For the first time in his two year life, she told him " good dog Jim".
He seems rather proud of his accomplishment as he is now lying in the shade under the lilacs to where he can monitor the kennel and the plum trees.

Magpies, we don't have those around here, but it sounds like you have some good "on duty" dogs.
You should set up a game camera and get some action shots.
