Tax on shipping?

Is it G.B. policy to charge state sales tax on the cost of Shipping? Is this something the shipper is adding without it being legal? It involves two purchases with the same seller @ $15.00 each for shipping. This doesn't seem fair to me and shipping is not combined. Thanks for any input, Ed

If it's not in the listing, I ask the seller if he/she combines shipping and then bid accordingly.
Ridge, I understand combining of shipping as being optional with the seller...My main question concerns taxation on shipping. This will the the first time I have ever paid tax on shipping in over 150 purchases on G.B. Thanks, Ed
You have a good question.
GB's policy is to charge state sales tax. A few states charge sales tax on shipping, most do not. You should know whether or not your state charges sales tax on shipping.
If it appears that your seller is charging sales tax on shipping, but your state doesn't, you should complain to the seller. If the seller shows you documentation that he is being charged sales tax on shipping that is not correct, that would mean an error in the software that GB uses; pay it, but open a complaint with GB.

In relation to Neal's post above, Washington is one of those states that tax shipping. I'm sure there are many.
Tax is something that is figured into each transaction....the seller isn't in control of that figure at all. If you get combined shipping on something, that is between you and the seller. The tax is on GB's end of things and it will get charged to their account.
Thank you, My state, Ca., does not charge sales tax on shipping. We never pay tax either sending a package or buying stamps. It is only a few bucks that I am questioning, but it is the principle of the matter. Since It is the weekend, I have not heard from the shipper yet. Thank you again, Ed
Thank you my friend, but California does not tax shipping. It is only a few bucks, but if I am being taken advantage of, I'd like to correct it. Also, the seller has a fairly large business and there are other buyers like myself who are possibly being over charged. Retired and lovin' it, yer fren, Ed
It is common practice for outfits like E-b and Amz to total the purchase price plus the shipping and then figure the the tax on the total. Even the Christian book store that my wife buys greeting cards from does it. In Michigan there is supposedly no sales tax on services but all the internet outfits that I patronize charge tax as I noted.
What I tried to explain....your complaint is not with the seller, they have nothing at all to do with the tax figures. You need to contact Gun Broker if you find a problem with tax, because the seller has no control at all over that.
