Welcome my new grandson!
He faced an unbelievable number of problems and he's still not out of the woods, but he's alive and still with us tonight. Thanks be to God!
We woke up this morning knowing today is the day he'd be delivered C-section, and nobody knew if he'd survive, or be able to breathe on his own, or what.... we had no idea what would happen. Well scratch that, if we really believed what the Bible said we'd know exactly what would happen:
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11
Was I man enough to live that in front of my family, as the patriarch? Sadly, no. I was just as fearful as everyone else. Although I did keep God up all night the last couple months praying Matthew 7:7...
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
Every time I woke up in the night I went straight to the throne of God and I bugged him and pestered him and harassed him about that verse. In the original Greek it says "Ask (and keep on asking) seek (and keep on seeking) knock (and keep on knocking)... so I harassed and pestered God and put it right back in his lap, "You told me to ask and keep on asking, so here I am.... asking for a perfect and healthy baby boy."
I think God loves it when we do that. He craves relationship with us. He told me how to pray and I did it, pressing in closer and closer to him, and he... the God of All Creation who spoke the Universe into existence with his voice... he listened and he healed my little grandbaby. Now little Samuel Robert lies in the neonatal intensive care and they set up a webcam and I'm watching him sleep. I don't really think I'll be going to bed tonight, I have a grandbaby to watch over.
Sleep, little man. You are blessed more than you'll ever know.

What a blessed little boy there Grandpa Nanuq! I will make sure to add more prayers to God along with yours to give that young man a great start to a big new life!
"Big new life"! Boy do you have that right. I already have Boston Bruins pacifiers for him and am sizing up what's available in hockey skates.
Let's goooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! We got things to do!
Praise God, and God bless you and your family.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Congrats to all.
You are blessed, and have been a blessing to others. Celebrate that new grandbaby for the miracle he is!
We've had a few setbacks, it turns out there are 3 little holes in his heart and the BPA hole that allowed Mama's O2 enriched blood to pass through his system hasn't closed up yet. But the cardiologist, a true gift from God, assured us and reassured us that this is not a big deal, they will resolve themselves. And if they don't just before he's ready to enter the Olympic trials? We'll deal with them then. NOT A BIGGIE.
Little man also has SVT which means his heart goes into crazy fast rhythm on its own, like 300 bpm. Again, doc says not to worry, it's not life threatening, and in his experience babies born with it grow out of it. We'll manage it with medication for awhile and see if it calms down.
He's off oxygen now, they put in the shunt to drain excess cerebro-spinal fluid, he passed that with flying colors, and doc says if things keep going so well, we can maybe take him home Saturday! Boy that's scary. But what gift from God has ever not been scary?
This has been such a miracle. I prayed such specific prayers and God stepped up to the plate and said "Toss me one you think I can't hit" and he knocked every one out of the park. I can't wait for little man to get older so he'll understand the stories. Boy am I gonna brag on the big, strong God he has that watched over him.
