I have a problem with a green mold on the shop's shingled roof. It probably is about 2 sq ft total in a few spots. I have seen green discoloration on some home siding (usually vinyl or maybe aluminum) but it is just a thin film. My stuff is about 1/8"+ thick. Have any of you guys come across this and if so what did you use to get rid of it?
Thanks,
It's too late for me, save yourself.

I've heard that vinegar in a pump up sprayer works

1/8" thick? You sure it isn't moss?
I agree at that thickness it sounds like moss
Sounds to me like you need to remove some limbs and let the sun hit it, algae, mold, etc. hates the sunshine.

On one of those old house shows, they used a cleaner with a copper compound in it. That was for moss. Diluted bleach works on green algae type of build up
Your roof is not getting any or very little sun. Also could be a draining problem from rain.
Every frw years, because of some mature oaks partially shading our roof, I have to spray on a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water to get rid of moss. It works fine.
Put a strip of zinc flashing under an upper course of your shingles. This will work as long as your moss problem is generally less than 10 courses below the flashing. Any further down tends to dilute the zinc runoff too much to be effective especially if you are getting strong growth.
Or, as mentioned above, whack the tree a bit.
Home depot carries a product called MossOut that works and won't stain or harm your roof or gutters. Bob
"Wet & Forget" worked for my "green stuff" on the vinyl siding.
...Dilute a bit of Chlorox Bleach with water, and spray on your problem areas, should work fine...
Thanks for all the comments guys. Yes, I have moss for sure. Shade, I now see, is a problem but won't be easy to fix. I'll spray it and hope that will kill it. Fortunately, it's not a large area but now I understand that it's bad for the shingles too.
Have you tried burning it down and starting over? Ideally this would involve a flamethrower.

While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain

Someone would call that the final solution Mr. Perfect. Unfortunately, I'm too old to start over.

This stuff works great on mold and mildew on vinyl siding. I used it on our house 3 years ago and it took off some pretty bad stuff that I figured was going to have to be scrubbed off. The day I spayed it on and rinsed it off it looked pretty good but the next day it looked even better.
I ordered 5 more gallons before June got sick last year that I've not had a chance to use yet. The house still looks pretty good as it is but if you do it every couple of years it keeps the mold and mildew from coming back.
