Bullet Casting

My daughter remembers casting bullets 50 years ago when she was about 12. When I think of 12 year olds casting bullets now, I cringe. My grandchildren are all middle-aged but I have great grand kids in that age bracket and I can't imagine setting them up with a pot of molten lead! I don't think kids are that much different but, for sure, I am. And, it appears most other adults are different than they were 50 years ago, too.

Many imports from Communist and third world countries are made by child slavery under the age of 12. Did your grand daughter cast bullets on a regular basis or just "help you out" for a few minutes. Were you using an electric pot or a dipper? BTW, I was reloading .32 Special ammo at age 13 with a Lyman 310 tool. I purchased the '94 Winchester with money earned from my 115 customer paper route delivering the Williamsport, Pa. Sun Gazette six day per week. But, I did have a helper!!! I agree with you, kids are different today. Ed, life member VFW & NRA
I learned to shoot 22s when I was around 10 years old. A year or two later was shooting a 38 and a 20 gage shotgun, and around 13 would shoot dads model 12 in 12ga. Was taught safety as most paramount
My Daughter learned to shoot a 22 rifle at 10. She first leaned to shoot a Ruger MK MK II at 11 or 12 and got to be a dam good shot. She also helped me cast bullets at a young age.
Before I as well as my daughter handled any firearm was strict repetitive training at the both the comprehension and application levels respectively.
When telling stories about when I first started handling and shooting firearms, DEMOCRATs cringe. They cringe when I tell them I stayed home by myself and babysat my younger sisters at a very early age, they cringe and they cringe even more when I tell them about corporal punishment received for doing something stupid at home or in school.
No fan at all of the nanny state, I am a fan of personal responsibility; something I was taught at an even earlier age.
No bullets at that age, but I was pouring sinkers and jig heads at around 10. Of course, dad being a chemical engineer, I got my first chemistry set at 6.
My son and daughter killed their first P-dog's at 5 YO...They were sizing cast bullets at 6-7...By the thousands...
