New Trucks $$

neacpaneacpa Member Posts: 2,711 ✭✭✭

A farmer friend of mine was in the office earlier this morning and said he had went to the Dodge place thinking about buying his mother a new truck. They told him $5k over msrp and no rebate. Ticked him off and he went across the street to the Toyota place and asked about a Tacoma. They told him $2k over msrp. Needless to say, his mother didn't get a new truck yesterday.

I guess I have been in a bubble last couple of months, but this is the first I have heard of prices over msrp like this. I knew lots of dealerships had very little new inventory on lots and folks saying used truck prices were high but not about them selling new ones over msrp....smh

It is a result of the computer chip shortage. No chips = no trucks. I read where most of the truck makers have a lot of almost completed trucks parked waiting for chips. There was a quick blurb on the news this morning about the government allocating the funds to promote domestic chip production. If that is true, I think it is a good thing. Bob

    Over MSRP? That's nuts!

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

well, just how did with get into this position to start with. Oh i know, the global economy where everyone plays fair and by the rules.

I thoroughly agree, but he is not the type to be stretching a story on me. I looked online at some dealerships and they show "Adjusted Internet Price", or MSRP but not an actual sell price.

Dealership that I bought my 2016 Chevy, double cab, long bed, called last week and offerd me 3,000.00 more than I gave for it.

I did get a good buyer's price when I bought it, at least I didn't limp when I left the sales office.

They said they had customers begging for HD's daily, 0 to be had.

I told him why would I want to sell my truck? Mine has 50,000 miles on the clock, paid for, never driven in salt ( parked in November and not driven until April at least. AND you can't find a new one to replace it.

Long bed trucks with double cabs are scarce as hen's teeth.

Will start a civil war but a crew cab pick up with short bed ain't nothing short of a glorified wheel borrow.

His reply, I agree, thanks for you time.

Watch out, the sumbeeches will price it on the internet for a reasonable asking price, Offer to buy it out right and see what happens, plus the Doc fees and every thing else they can hook you for.

Last few times I went to the dealerships planning on buying something I left and was so insulted I had to look in the mirror to see if I had dumbazz written across my forehead.

I have run into a few salesman that made you like you made a good deal.

Bought a 2013 Yukon Denali, after looking all over heck and Georgia. I was looking for a late model Tahoe LTZ. Found one on the internet in my price range, called about it, sold just earlier in the day, another scarce item on the used market.

Salesman said he had the above GMC for X amount. I told him I did not like the look of the front of the Yukon but if the price was right I could learn to like it. About an hour later he called with best offer, loaded up the lady of the house and drove 2 1/2 hours to Sevierville, TN. I really learned to like the look and did I mention that sucker will leave the face of the earth, the 6.2 engine runs and sounds like a hot rod.

Side note, it had 100,000 highway miles on the clock and looks like the seats had never been sat in .

I, nor any of my family members have purchased a "New" vehicle in 20 years! I work with a wholesaler on the W. coast. Been buying a 1 or 2 year old vehicle with maybe 5,000-10,000 miles on it. NEVER been skunked so far and the savings are unbelievable.

I recently purchased a new Toyota Tundra Ltd. I purchased it at North Ga Toyota, in Dalton, because none of the dealerships here in Western NC had any. Ashville said they had one but by the time I got there it was gone. There were two on the lot in Dalton. They were both 2021 Ltd models. Sticker was $53k, I asked for their best price and was told 'that is it', if you don't buy it today, we will sell it tomorrow. So I went ahead an made the deal. My trade was a 2019 Tacoma TRD I had purchased in Ashville two years prior for $36k. Are you ready for this: they gave me $33k trade in. Best deal I have every made and loving my new Tundra.

Dodge finally had a novel idea. Make the trucks WITHOUT the IC chips which are non existent. All they do is MPG crap. They will be making trucks without the chips. No auto shut off/on when stoping and no stoping to 4 cylinders from 8. But hey, they can make trucks without the chips. IF only Trump want cheated, then America would be MORE self reliant!

I took my 2015 F-150 in for service at my dealer today.....the floor manager asked me if I was ready to move up to a new one....They had two new one on the lot...56K and 60K...told him no thanks. He said my will never be worth more to which I stated again...NO Thanks..

I think he was able to read the look on my face and we talked about hunting instead...

Had a man stop me outside Lowes today and try and buy my truck. Not many used ones on lots around here.

  • susiesusie Member Posts: 7,685 ✭✭✭✭

Son-in-law can't keep vehicles on the lot. Most that are coming in have already been bought or have deposit on them pending delivery.

If he was a Chevy dealer I might have traded my truck. But, I'm keeping it. 0% finance is hard to beat.

It's insane in the Boise valley also. Son and his wife saw a new listing with a couple of acres listed on a Saturday morning, open house at 1pm. Open house canceled by noon due to multiple offers.

2008 sub prime mortgage crisis and massive loans handed out to anyone still breathing no problem. People paying way over market then too. See where that went. This on top of runaway inflation, stock market overheated and uncountable sums of money handed out in stimulus. Where did that stimulus money come from. A day of reckoning must be coming.
