Plug for Home Depot
Long story short Home D carries the Ryobi brand of tools Lowes doesnt. I usually shop at Lowes due to Military discount but Home Depot has earned my business for awhile.
After checking on line and seeing they had two in stock I drove over to get one of the Pole saws for the 40 volt system, tool only I have plenty of batteries and chargers.
No luck slot is empty, Guy asks if he could help I almost let it go but said sure I was looking for this tool that shows 2 on line but space is empty and I checked all around and end cap sale area.
He scans the empty slot tag and proceeds to get a giant rolling ladder and goes up and down three times searching for the correct box.
When he couldn't find it I figured game over but no sir, He says I'm going to sell you the one with the charger and battery for the same price! Awesome, I wrote a comment to HD and will give them a shot even sans the 10% off,

Great service!
Home Depot here gives a 10% military discount. I just show my VA Card, and they apply it.
Great customer service, and something you rarely see these days.
Which Home Depot? Give them a plug.
HD corporate says that the company does not give a military discount. However, a store manager can give any discount he wants to anyone. Employees have the authority to do what the store manager wants them to do.

After the position HD took on the Georgia Election law I would not give them the time of day!
My HD says I have to go online and register to get a 10% mildisc. At the online site, it demands I provide some official document that proves I was military. Send them some of my records? No frigging way. My ID card is proof enough everywhere else.
That's the way it should work.
I worked at Lowe's for a few years in lumber and as a delivery driver. I saw some customer treatment like that at times. I still go to Lowe's for the military discount though.
Our local HD never offered the 10% Mil. Disc't. until last year! Evidently others like myself told them I'd prefer to shop at Lowes due to their Mil. Disc't. policy.
I have the Ryobi 40 volt weed eater & leaf blower and like them. I borrowed a friend's Ryobi 40 volt post hole digger with an 8" auger. It did a GREAT job.
Dano, that happened to my once back in the early '80's. I walk into a big chain electronics store in Indy to buy a color computer monitor. It was around $275.00 or so (remember this was the early '80's). The girl scanned it and told me $20.00 or so. I paid her and got out. I felt kind of bad for a while but it wasn't her mistake, she just scanned the bar code. This post may contribute into why they are no longer in business.
Yes, I'm still ashamed - well maybe not as much.
😕
I drove to Charleston to buy my John Deere mower last yr. Only Home depot that had it. They even held it for me till I got there.
Lowe's has always given a Veteran Discount, and even have several dedicated parking places for Vets. Home Depot had to fall in line or lose some business. They always check my DL when I ask for the discount.
I live within 45 miles of two Home Depot stores. The one farthest away always gives me the 10% discount. The closest one, only 10 miles does NOT. 😒
Yeah its too bad the discount is inconsistent across all HD. With Lowes I have a sticker in my wallet I just scan and it gets me the 10%, any Lowes anytime.
Home depot has every right to limit the discount as they see fit but as many here have indicated they seem to be all over the place with it.
Either way 10% is nice but the exceptional service will be rewarded with my business until someone ruins it. Too bad for them I closed down my Company and won't generate near the sales I did when I was doing building maintenance.
Also as Toolman and FCD noted the Ryobi system has never let me down. I have quite a few of the 18 volt stuff and many of the 40v, The weedwacker can whack longer then I can, and same with the chain saw, Pole saw Etc. Especially with extra batteries quick change and back to work no time to rest at all!
A few years back HD would only give vet discount two or three times a year or to Active Duty only. I had same problem as you fellas and started to avoid the cashiers that would not give discount. Finally got tired of it and called Corp. in Atlanta, explained the problem and cancelled my HD card. Still used HD but last few times left items on counter and explained that Lowes was only one half mile longer for me. Eventually HD gave me discount all the time by all cashiers. I guess they watch the bottom line and the squeaky wheel does get the grease most times.-------------------------------------------------Ray
Although HD is farther away, I prefer shopping there. Lately, I've been ordering on-line & getting free shipping +++ that arrives in 2-3 days. While building our house, I wanted 3 of the same faucets. The closer HD had 2 & another HD had 1. That store wouldn't hold it since they were on close-out. So, while the Assistant Manager of the first store was visiting the 2nd store, he bought the faucet himself. He brought it back to his store & returned it, holding all 3 in their inventory. I went to the 1st store & bought all 3. That's service.
Lowes is out go to...Better customer service!!! We purchased about 1900 pounds of sand for a paver project...as I was putting on my gloves...Two young men came out and told me to take my gloves of as they would take care of it...And they did!!!
