Is there a shortage of used riding mowers?I had a couple setting around,I got them running, pressure washed them and sold them to the first people that came to look them over and they were not cheap by local prices.I must have had 50 calls on each of them.

A friend has a Cub Cadet dealership and he is almost out of new mowers. Doesn't know when he will get more. He has a pile of non running riders out back that he is trying to refurbish.
Also a lot around here on Craigslist. No one uses a push mower. They’ll buy a riding mower for a 50’x50’ lot.

Shortages of all kinds in random places it seems.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
working on a low end commercial gravely right now, needed a new engine. by the way for all of you that think kawasaki engines are so great, this is the second one i have replaced this year. both with broken valves that destroyed the engine. anyway a guy came by and offered me $2000 for it when i get it finished. should make about $400 for my work, maybe i can buy a couple of boxes of ammo.
we have several items powered by Honda engines off the top of my head I know a roto tiller and pressure washer maybe one or two more yard equipment with Honda engines , they have always started right up no problems ( between my sons and us have 6 Honda vehicles also in the mix ) its hard to beat a Honda engine ( after almost 26 years spent there I am bit biased on Hondas )
as for mowers i have seen no shortage in or around any local places that sell them seem to have plenty sitting in front of the stores but then again have not looked for a mower for quit some time . my youngest did buy a zero turn JD but I do not know much about it .
Younger Son builds mowers in a medium sized production plant. They've been working 45-50 hours per week since February on single shift. Management is trying sort out the details for running a second shift for the areas that keep running behind(fabrication, paint, and shipping). The previous 3 months(March-May) of several models went into containers for shipment to Australia. Domestic orders for those models have been on hold.
I saw a couple of Kawasaki engines that had dropped valves or beat the valve guide out,but both of the had mouse nest in the fins and they ran hot.Same thing happens to Kohler and Briggs.I really dont know what company makes the best small engine. It very well may be Honda but I rarely see one on a riding mower around here.
I have over 500 hours on my Bad Boy 48" ZT with a Kohler 27 HP. Regular maintenance and cleaning will make all the difference for long term use. I also only use non-ethanol gas in all of my small engines. My 2003 Honda Rancher has Lord only knows how many hours on it. One battery change since new and starts just as good as when I bought it ten years ago.
There are very few push mowers, walk behind mowers or riders available in western Iowa. Toros are sold out and John Deeres are gone.
Here in Upstate S.C. all I can say is that the Lowe's 2 miles from my home has a bunch of mowers sitting out front of the store. Mostly John Deere, Husquvarna, Cub Cadets and Troy built.

Shivvers Country Clipper mowers may begin shipping locally within the next month or so.
I’ve been running a Craftsman mower with a Honda engine for the past ten years. I mow weekly year-round as the grass never dies from cold here.
A change every two years with Mobil 1 oil and a couple of blade sharpenings is about all I’ve done to it.
Stay safe.
