I recently bought a 22 rifle for my son. Any recommendations on a reasonable low cost scope?

Almost all of my 22 rifles have the Simmons 22mag series scopes for about 50.00 and I have been quite satisfied with them
I know some guys that really like the Hawke line of rimfire scopes. Two years ago I bought a Leupold Freedom 3-9x40 with the drop compensator reticle. I'm really kind of disappointed with clarity of the Leupold.
I have vintage 4x Weaver scopes on most of my 22's. They are tough and hold zero well. I dislike those tiny rim fire scopes.
for my older 22s i try and buy period correct weaver scopes. sometimes not the most clear but they look right on the rifle. on newer 22s ive had good luck with bushnell, i think they offer good value for your money. oh and by the way, i dont shoot competition or anything like that, just like to have fun shooting and teaching firearm skills to the grandchildren.
Athlon makes some amazingly low price/high quality scopes.
Here's everything on GunBroker that's under $200.
What rifle did you get your boy?
HAWKE scopes are actually pretty decent quality. Several of my range type 22's have NIKON rimfire scopes which are fine. Others are equipped with Sightron's which are way beyond excellent.
Teach him to shoot it with Iron sights first, then get a good quality scope. Used scopes go for a dime on the dollar and a are a great deal.
I would look at a Burris or a vortrex scope on the auction side used. Maybe a 3x9 or a fixed 4x.
I have a simmons 32mm 4x on a rifle, it's accurate and holds zero. .22 scopes generally have the parallax set at 50 yards or less so yes get a scope made for the .22. I have a variable 2x7 Bushnell .22 scope with adjustable parallax and a drop compensating reticle on another rifle. It works fine but is heavy for a .22 rifle.
I like these rings for mounting to the standard .22 receiver scope groves. No stress on the scope and no lapping needed.

Simmons or BSA
Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 rimfire scope. Normally it can be found for around $130. Probably the clearest optics in its price range. Bob
