New s truck shortage ?

pulsarncpulsarnc Member Posts: 6,562 ✭✭✭✭

I have bern reading and seeing reports and comments on the shortage of new trucks and the insane prices on used trucks . Kind of felt some of it was an exaggerated. Rode thru the lot of the largest regional ford dealer in my part of the state today They had about 50 trucks on the lot . Looked and almost all are apparently lease turn-ins . All 2018 and 2019 with 75 k average mile . Out of over 375 vehicles on the lot i counted 2 new ford trucks and 2 ford cars/suvs .Everything else was used . Website listed a few more (8) that I did not see . Cheapest is 2012 4 wheel drive with 150 thousand miles at $21,250 .. Your thoughts?

    Yep

My Toyota Tacoma is 4 months away from being 5 years old and I have had several dealers ask me if I want to sell it for 4K less than I paid for it new.

Myself, in a past life was involved in the lease of several hundred vehicles leased as new, mostly pickups 5 ton or less with half being regular 1/2 ton Dodge Ford and GMC. IMHO, I would never buy one. Resale rentals are even worse.

Years ago I remember a friend who is an moderator here on GB telling me a story about a car that he could drive anywhere. Run it in first gear until it overheat, Ignore all warning lights or gages, drive over rocks and primitive roads and not worry about dents or paint. At the worse in deep water until it stalled. When I asked him the brand, had vision of WW II jeep.

    His reply: Rental car.

This is going to get worse. I work for Brembo brakes, and although orders are coming in and paying the bills, most of what we are selling currently are for service. Not a good sign for the auto manufacturers.

The chip issue is also compounded by a resin shortage for furniture, so even the vehicles with full computer capacity may have missing seats. Grab your ankles if you are looking for vehicles in the next 24 months.

I was over in Bennington Vermont today. I drove by the Ford dealer who usually has twenty or so trucks....he had about five. I thought maybe he was moving..

Bought my latest work rail in 2015. 2007 Ford focus, 30,000 miles, for

    Cash.

It had been wrecked, body panels kinda skewed.

It now has 230,000 ish miles on it.

Should be good for, about 200,000 more miles, unless a deer jumps directly in front of me.

Change the oil every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, doesn't use a drop in between.

Mother nature gives it bath's when she feels like it.

Same story with every ford car I've owned.

Every import I've ever owned has ate it's pigs at 200,000 or less. Blown head gaskets, etc.

The Fords aren't pretty at 400,000, but they still get me the 60 miles one way to work, and home.

I was wondering what to do with this Nissan Frontier that still works fine with 500,000 miles on it.May be time to sell it.

Explorer production shut down a few weeks ago due to the semiconductor shortage. Perhaps it is affecting other production as well.

Looks like the time has finally come that we must defy human nature and be satisfied with what we have. I'm good with that! 🙂

My last Ford Truck was a 1996 Ranger. It was a decent truck and made my great nephew a fine first vehicle. My 2015 F150 has been fantastic so far. Last time I took it for servicing a few weeks ago the sales manager tried real hard to get me to sell it outright or trade it for a new one....Told them no thanks..

I am not sure this one will last 25 years like the last one but I am hoping it does.......

all new 150s are parked in lots around the plants sitting cause they dont have brains for them

As to trucks lasting ,the arguement has always been who builds the longest lasting dependable truck . To see , go to a farm equipment auction . Here ,NC , older Fords will outnumber everything else 2 to 1

At 600,000 miles on the clock I will keep my shipping crate for a Cummins 5.9 motor (Dodge Ram 2500) for at leat another 400,000 miles. If for some reason it pukes out I will drive my Kia Soul and still haul stuff even if I have to remove the back and passenger seats.

My last FORD was a leased F150 in 1994. Worst vehicle EVER. After that one, I vowed to NEVER own or lease another and only ride in one if absolutely necessary.

Local Chevy/Toyota dealer has a lot full of new pickups. Most folks aren't comfortable spending money they don't have and/or aren't sure they can replace.

Bought my Truck in December of 2019 for 22,500 with 22K miles on it. It now has around 45K miles and Carvanna's offer is $28,069 while tempting as all get out I just can't go without a Truck for long and since rental and used/new Market is crazy I would be remiss to sell. If I had a crystal ball and knew in 6 months I could get a great deal I'd sell today LOL

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
  • pulsarncpulsarnc Member Posts: 6,562 ✭✭✭✭

I tried the carvana thing just for fits and giggles . Their offer was 32,800 for a truck i paid a little over 25 for . I would take them up on the offer if i had another truck already in the driveway .

My Uncle Jack who restores Mustangs in Apple Grove, Virginia says:

"If you listen very carefully in the quiet of the night, you can hear the sound of those Chevy Trucks rusting away"

He had a employee who had a back-up system for his Chevy Truck. Carried a bicycle in bed of truck. I guess the Chevy Truck died and it was too far to ride the bike to work.

On the wall in Uncle Jack's shop is a huge metal sign of a Mustang pooping Chevy Bowties. He says I don't have enough money to make him restore a Chevy. I think he is lying because he knows I love him like a brother.

Been a Chevy Truck Guy for 50 years. My 2013 Silverado had worse rust I ever seen on underbody and frame. Three estimates for $8,000 to fix rust problem and GM offered $1,500. Truck had 17,000 miles on it. Dealer knew they were screwing me and let me walk away with a new 2015 Silverado for $9,000 and my rust bucket. 2015 had a light interior which you can't get anymore. Only way to get light interior is a Hi-Country at $75,000-$80,000.

I spent weeks researching new Ram's and crawling under them at every dealer within 100 miles. Bought a New Ram about a year ago. Laramie Longhorn, 5.7, red with light leather interior, moon roof, the whole nine yards. I think it listed for around $66,000. There is a reason, truck of year for three years. Zero problems, This truck is a beast. Only complaint is too high tech and changing oil is a PIA.

I miss my old Chevy dealer and his employees but as far as GM. Screw them -----------------Ray
