Hold A Happy Thought, Or Whisper A Prayer, Please...RIP Lt. Gasway
Early on Father's Day morning, Dwight Gasway died/passed on/left the planet.
I worked with Dwight for many years. He was a Lieutenant and I was a Patrol Officer. It was like working for family. He was a great boss.
His family was law enforcement focused. His brother Narvel was a Captain with our PD. Narvel left us a good many years ago. His daughter Lora was a senior dispatcher/call taker and did a fantastic job. She died unexpectedly and prematurely from complications from injuries suffered in a fall. His brother-in-law, with whom he was very close, was Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit, who was murdered on November 22, 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald.
That leaves his widow Carole, and daughter Letha, as the only ones left
Sorry for the rambling. Please hold up the Gasway family in prayer and good thoughts, and hold me up as well. I have been tasked with conducting the memorial service at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Lynch Funeral Services, south of Greenville in the Cash community. I am no pastor, and while I have stood and spoken up for a friend at his funeral, conducting the whole service will be a new experience.

And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

Condolences to you Mr. Nunn, and to his widow. I'm sure he couldn't ask for better friend to preside over his service.
When I learned of Lt. Gasway’s passing, I thought of this passage in the book, “Sixguns” by Elmer Keith. He penned these words about the passing of his friend and Peace Officer Bill O’Connel, but they apply equally well to Dwight. I pass this quote along, slightly paraphrased:
“So died Lt. Dwight Gasway, a man without fear, a terror to evil doers and a friend of stray dogs, lost kids, and everyone in trouble or in need of help.”
I included the above in the eulogy.
RIP and prayers for his family and peace for you. You will do a great job with the service as it is coming from your heart

B-I-L of Dallas Officer J. D. Tippet. Wow!
Was thinking of you today, and Lt.'s family.
It's always hard to say goodbye to old friends. Glad it went well for you. Hopefully, some day an old friend will be willing to do the same for you.
