AR-10 question??

dreherdreher Member Posts: 8,892 ✭✭✭✭

In the butt stock of a PSA AR-10 lower is a little compartment that contained a small piece. This piece is 3/4 of an inch long, 1/2 inch wide. It is knurled at the top and threaded through the center to a hollowed out space that is 1/2 an inch long. A 1 inch long screw with threads that fit the center hole in this piece also was in this compartment. This screw has some type of coating on part of it to act like a form of loc-tite. So where ever this piece goes there must be a concern it would shoot loose.

So what is this and where does it go?? Sorry, I can't do pics.

Hmmm. It sounds as though you have a butt stock different than my own (STR)- or, I haven't located that little do-dad:

Do you have open sights? It might be a tool to adjust them.

It is not a sight adjusting tool. That much I know. Bottom surface is flat, no notches of any kind. That plus the rifle is sightless at this time.

Help us out. Who is the manufacturer of the stock? and what model is it? Mine is a MagPul STR, which shipped with my PSA.

could it be a sling/detach mount?

MagPul, 1 LX50. The first thing I noticed when I picked up this lower was that it rattled, as in very noticeably. I opened up this little place with a snap thing like I see on clock radios where the 9 volt rectangular shaped battery goes. I'm sure whatever this thingie is, it is meant to be put on this lower somewhere because it rattles so loudly when you handle the rifle. It couldn't be meant to stay in this little container.

I bought this lower on a real good PSA blemished sale over 2 years ago. Great price. I just kept looking for an upper at a great price. Found a real nice upper at a real good price last week. Again sold as blemished. I have bought many lowers and uppers from PSA that were listed as blemished. Only once did I ever find the "blemish", and even then I wasn't 100% sure. I have heard people complain about PSAs as not being good quality but everything I have bought from I've been happy with and amazed at how accurate they have been.

Once I put this AR-10 together I was very happy with just how nice this rifle is, how good it looks and how little I have invested in it. I couldn't be happier with it but I sure would like to know what this piece is and where it goes!!

Good job, Savage. You earned "promote". It doesn't actually do anything, but it does look good on your forum résumé.
