Gwen Berry
C&P
"My purpose and my mission is bigger than sports,'' Berry said. "I'm here to represent those ... who died due to systemic racism. That's the important part. That's why I'm going. That's why I'm here today.''
Berry found it to be no matter of coincidence that she was front and center during the anthem. Unlike the Olympics, anthems aren't played to accompany medal ceremonies at the trials. But the hammer throwers received their awards just before the start of the evening session, which has been kicking off all week with a videotaped rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner.''
USA Track and Field spokeswoman Susan Hazzard said "the national anthem was scheduled to play at 5:20 p.m. today. We didn't wait until the athletes were on the podium for the hammer throw awards. The national anthem is played every day according to a previously published schedule.'' On Saturday, the music started at 5:25.
And so, while Price and Andersen stood still on the podium with their hands over the hearts and stared straight ahead at the American and Oregon flags, Berry fidgeted and paced on the third step. Then she turned away and finally grabbed her T-shirt.
"They said they were going to play it before we walked out, then they played it when we were out there,'' said Berry. "But I don't really want to talk about the anthem because that's not important. The anthem doesn't speak for me. It never has.''
Her gestures drew virtually no reaction from the still-filling stands. And they were something far less than two summers ago, when Berry raised her fist on the podium after winning the Pan-Am Games.
Go throw the hammer for another country them and get out of this one. One more proof that ugly is NOT skin deep. If they send her sorry but to Tokyo I am going to write a protest letter to the US Olympic committee.
Comments
Let's see - a country who makes it possible for a 31 year old black amateur athlete to compete in the Olympics is racist. Something just ain't working right in her head. Also I don't wear Puma shoes and after finding out that they sponsor her will continue that trend. Bob
There is no way in hell that ungrateful maggot should be allowed to represent the United States of America. The modern Olympics suck.
Another teachable lesson here:
Its not her behavior that is the problem. It is the fact her behavior is lauded instead of being condemned by establishment partisan media. It is the fact she is allowed to continue to participate in sports. It is the fact DEMOCRATs in congress and their media counterparts are telling her America is racist and unjust.
This clip from Miracle on Ice says it best.
Sickening
Dismiss her, send her home an disqualify her from the team.
^^^^this
Seems like a fundamental requirement ought to be she “represents America”.
She's probably trying to hide her chubby from the camera.......
Will some one please explain to me what "systemic racism" is and point out an example of one. The only Systemic racism I see is for folks that are of a light skin tone. Affirmative action, Federal Contract set-asides, College admission points and many others are only pointed in one direction. Is that what they mean by Systemic Racism?
I hate to say bad things about folks but I would like to see her attacked by a Walrus.
What have you got against walruses???
I was just reading about her and was showing my wife the article
she should be life time banned from any USA backed sports any and all awards titles stripped away
but she will become another icon / hero to be worshiped
POS come to mind very fast
I hate to profile but this is not surprising considering .............................................
She is a hero to all those people that's been " oppressed " for decades, from what I don't know. I can bet you she gets a free education and growing up got free about everything, I would like to be oppressed some.
Hope she comes in dead last in the real thing.
Sleepy dementia joe is defending it.
the picture says it all. Two proud and smiling patriots and then her. Sad really
Looks like a guy in drag.
Just sayin'.....
