Like hogs in a pen.

So the taliban is sending hordes into Afghanistan. Now that they are out in the open too bad we can't drop in, seal off the escape routes, work toward the center and drop them like hogs in pen.

They know it's going south, they have the 82nd, and a I think it was Marines that are special trained for this kind of embassy evac on standby in Kuwait. It's a given it's going to happen, why the wait for the last minute?

  • WarbirdsWarbirds Member Posts: 16,923 ✭✭✭✭

That must be why Trump created a withdrawal plan and signed a treaty with the Taliban.

On the way home this afternoon I heard on the radio they have 3000 troops ready to send over to guard the airports so they can evacuate the embassies and anyone else that wants out.

We haven't done anything that makes military sense since the end of WWII. And the worse it gets, the more the uninformed slime in DC are in charge making all the decisions.

Just hose the place down with bacon grease and let them have it. There's a few "no BS" solutions to the Middle Eastern problem but no one wants to pursue them.

I think it has to go much further. All these people understand is brute force and living with a boot on the back of their necks to keep them in line. Saddam Hussein understood this and he kept Iraq under control, his mistake was thinking we wouldn't stop him from expanding his control to other countries. We should have installed a person like him to run Afghanistan with the simple understanding that he could do whatever he had to do to keep those people in line and not let anybody do anything that threatened the world outside their borders and that includes exporting opium. If they couldn't do it we would be back to install their replacement.

We sent our best there to "free" these people and all we got back was a trillion dollars deeper in debt, thousands of dead, and many more thousands missing limbs and with PTSD. We will be bringing back many Afghans and their families that helped us and would be punished for helping us, how long until their kids or grandchildren go on a killing spree in the name of Allah against us infidels?

Myself, I do not think we needed to install anyone or concern ourselves with what goes on in that country as long as they leave us alone. If they want to be controlled by the taliban and grow opium that's their business and long as they leave us alone. If they don't leave us alone go back and kick their * even harder to the point of leveling cities.

If we must go to war, as a country we should do so with clear goals and a fundamental exit strategy.

This is the 4th Presidential administration since this kicked off, 2 from each political party.

The fact is, we would have achieved the exact same results we are experiencing today, if we would have pulled back a day after Bin Laden was killed (IN PAKISTAN).

We killed Bin Laden over 10 years ago (May 11, 2011). Every american life lost since that day was sacrificed for a reason that is not clear to me.

The forgeign policy that dictated we only battled the Taliban/Al Qaeda in Afghanistan (not Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Syria, also) guaranteed this result.

We operated within borders that our enemy fundamentally didn’t recognize and they exploited that fact efficiently.

Watch China come in, mine all the minerals and gems and make the Taliban insanely rich and powerful in the entire middle east and  beyond.  Let's see, the Chinese will be bringing in all kinds of items of war including jets and training in exchange for what they want.

We need another General Schwarzkopf, turned loose like he did in the Persian war. There was a real leader!

We should have never stayed in Afghanistan. Went in, yes, kick *, yes, stayed to clean it up, no.

My understanding is most of the people in Afghanistan didn't even know why we showed up and didn't understand why we stayed or what we were attempting to do. Now we leave behind a bunch of everything, including a lot of people that are going to pay a steep price.

We did not have any more 911events while the US was there. I expect that will change soon.

My nephew is a Command Sargent Major. Was 5th Group SF. Jump Master, Combat Medic, the whole nine yards. I sort of lost track but as I recall about three tours in Iraq and three or four in Afghanistan. Can't remember how many bars and hash marks on sleeves. Nine rows of ribbons (probably no room for more). Victim of IED in Iraq. My wife and I got the call at 1:30 in the morning.

Hillbilly, Gordon like my son is a Grad of West Virginia and is at Ft. Bragg right now. Because of the situation in Kabul, I just can't bring myself to ask him what are his feelings this morning. I know I should.---------------------------Ray

We have to understand, the borders of the countries in that region were established by the colonizers. Russia and Great Britain. They're recognized as countries internationally from the outside but not by the inhabitants thereof. Their country is their tribe. The ruler of Afghanistan rules the region he inhabits. It may be recognized as the capital of the country by other countries but not by the other tribes in other regions.
