I was reading about the fall and looking at photos of the Taliban "fighters" this morning. I would say most are ex ANA soldiers we trained. I also read the warlords are calling for the gov to pull out and hand power over to them and the taliban.
Well I am just slightly PO'ed having lost many friends there and spending about 30 months there fighting. I was one of the 1st to go into that place and I thought we would go in, kill as many Taiban and AQ chitheads we could for a few years then leave. But no we had to nation build, just like all the other places. Nation building only works when your enemy is totally defeated and on his knees Ala Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.
Well I have gotten over it, so I'll just say phucket (That is a town in Thailand spelled wrong)
Like Vietnam wasn't Russia in Afganistan for twenty years or so too? You can't go into another country and "help" them without the backing of the citizens and an unwillingness to kill off those who are opposing.

Our history of leaving told the Taliban that they just had to wait us out. The civilians knew as well, which is why so many rode the fence.
There is a special place on in hell reserved for those who committed us to this war. Fighting them over there did not work out so well.

Nation building only works when the populace wants the kind of nation that you're trying to build.............the people in Afghanistan don't want American style democracy...........and they can't work within that sort of system. Too much religion and too many tribes.

I was trying to highlight Biden’s reasoning as to why no one should have an “ assault “ rifle.
Pretty sure that the Taliban is now well equipped with a bunch of US material that the Afghans are turning over. Now they will have something more sophisticated than Russian DSHK machine guns bolted into the beds of Toyota pickup trucks.
