Henry Fonda, Maureen O'Hara excellent acting, excellent movie on now. most risque movie i had ever seen to that point. especially when the teenagers got sunburned up on the mountain.

One of my favorites. Saw it with my parents in a theater when I was just a kid, and I've watched it a dozen times on TV.

I get a catch in my throat when the entire community stops what they're doing to go and rescue Clay and Grandpa.

Spencer's Mountain was the show that the Walton's was based on, kind of.

great old move been years but I use to watch it when ever it would come on . now I could watch it any time thanks to the internet and so many streaming sites

I agree I always thought Walton's mountain had a resemblance to the old movie ,

speaking of the two kids on the mountain if I remember the line from the one kid telling on the older brother " they were tangled up like two fishing worms " or something like that

it was sad watching the brother trapped under tree in the water and the other brother trying to save him though

Great movie! My favorite part was when Fonda was out fishing and met Wally Cox down by the stream. Set him up to fish and shared his alcohol beverage with him. Both returned to family homestead drunk as skunks. Meet the new preacher.....Wally Cox! 😁

Both this movie and the TV show The Walton's were written by Earl Hamner Jr.

Yes. Earl Hamner wrote both, based on his upbringing. He stated that Spencer's Mountain was much closer to his real life than was The Waltons.
