Got a new weed whacker

montanajoemontanajoe Forums Admins, Member, Moderator Posts: 60,263 ******

My 'ol weed eater brand whacker started having issues the last couple times I used it. Leaking gas at carb. Rough idle, bogs down. Had it over 18 years. Never changed or pulled the plug, never had an issue before. It served me really well.

Got a new one though. A Stihl FS38 with two warranty.

I have many Stilh products and some are 15 years old. My FS56 has served me well. You will be happy with your purchase montanajoe.

It's too late for me, save yourself.

I have the FS131 and it's been a good unit. Congrats on your new whacker.

I have had the FS38 for three years. The air cleaner cover is a little tricky to get on right after cleaning but no problems.

I gave up on gas trimmers & went with the Ryobi 40v. It uses all the attachments from my old trimmers.

I got tired of fighting the gasoline issues and bought a Dewalt 20V string trimmer with the 5 A battery. It works so much better, but it is a little heavy, but I still like it much better than the stinky gas ones I've had.

Have a fs85 which ran like a top until a little electronic module went out. No longer available. Never thought Stihl would leave a owner hanging like that. Went with a 4 stroke Honda instead. Stihl have four of their saws though.

we have a assortment of weed trimmers earlier this year one of my sons got on a Milwaukee kick and bought a bunch of battery powered tools drills, saws, then a hedge trimmer/tree trimmer and a chainsaw also a weed trimmer my wife loves it no gas no pull starting ( even though I have a gas one with a power starter just put it on and hit the go button )

any way the battery's last about a 1/2 hour run time and about1/2 hour +/- to charge but he bought all the tools an slae and got extra battery's as part of each purchase so no shortage of them . the chain saw really surprised me it would not great in the big woods or logging of course but cutting down a tree and cutting it up in the yard its great

back to the weed eater its easy to load new line and and not too heavy and just swap out a battery why my wife likes it so much

I bought the biggest trimmer STIHL made 5 or 6 years ago. First thing I did was clear 40 acres of thumb size to 3" diameter sprouts using a saw blade. Mostly the boys run it now cleaning out electric fence runs-about 3 miles worth 2-3 times per summer. You can't replace displacement when power is necessary.

Have a little ECHO 26CC for the yard--seems like a toy compared to the STIHL but is much easier on my shoulders. Younger Son is still using my 20+ year old STIHL at his house. Says it runs like a new one.

A couple years back, I stopped at the local STIHL dealer and the STIHL district rep was there promoting the battery powered trimmers. He started his spiel with me and the dealer just chuckled and said "Don't even bother showing that toy to him. The only reason he'd want a battery on a trimmer would be if it had an electric starter".

I have a Solo model 24 i bought from lowes about 35 years ago . Carb has been rebuilt once . With the right blade on it i can cut down trees 3 to 4 inches in diameter . Doesnt get much use trimming grass . If i can't get to it with the riding mower i spray it with roundup or pramital .
