My wife's Uncle by marriage so not sure if that still counts as my Uncle LOL.

He bought this car, I think a 67 GTO new in 67, he has been the only owner. Not sure what year he turned it into a drag car but he said it has over 780 HP. I asked him what those boxes were he said electronic shift, go figure. Hes funny he is 79 races almost every Sunday. He said "I hit this red button stomp the pedal to the floor and hold on with both hands!

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

1/8" or 1/4" mile? And give me some times please. 780 horse out of a Pontiac motor takes some doings and cash. I ran a 66 for a while and switched to a big block Camaro where crate motors in the day churned out 460 horse.

I really like that car, really a sweet setup. Running Super Pro means you are fast around here.

He said he runs 1/8 mile in around 6. some seconds, motor cost north of 24K

He explained he dials in a time and apparently that is how they handicap you with other cars.

That is called bracket racing. I used to bracket race a 69 roadrunner on the 1/4 mile drag strip. I ran in the mid 9’s.

nice car and congrats to the fellow for sticking with somethin he obvious loves

as for me it too far for me to travel to drag race any more use to be a local track just out side of town maybe 5 miles but I really liked street racing better back in the good old days better any way 😁

all the new ( well for us old timers who did not keep up on the latest ) electronic shifting, delay boxes ,rev limiters , throttle stops , trans brakes computer controlled fuel systems have taken a lot of the driver error out now its get the programs right and hit the pedal

still fun I remember when 500 HP on a Street / strip car was impressive now a crate engine is 1000 hp easy same as always $$$$ how fast you want to go

Yep, the bracket racing is one for a car that can run the same time or very close time and time again. When I was racing at Byron, Il. we were the king of dragstrip bracket racing. In the first Bracketnationals first place payout was 5K!! I made in four rounds and there was less than 100 cars left and clutch blew up between 3rd- 4rth gear.😐️

Anyway I can believe he has that much money in the motor and I bet it sounds sooooooo sweet.☺️

    Good looking car.

Bracket racing is a ton of fun and you don't need a dedicated racer to enjoy it. I go to a couple strips around here and it's cheap thrills and a car show to boot.

You can take the old family wagon to the racetrack when you bracket race. Fun for everyone! Just dial in your time and try to make it as constant as you can. Run what you brung.

way back in my younger years the local track ( long long gone ) held bracket races

there were two cars cars the people loved / hated one was a lady driving a pinto and the other was called the water works car ( it was a maverick the city had sold off but still had the water works decal on the doors )

you could just about go to the snack bar and bath room when they were going down the track it was like racing in slow motion but they won enough to make it profitable for them put in drive green light go I think the were 18 or 19 seconds some crazy slow time it may have been a second or two faster any way so many people would" break out" chasing them down .

I spent a lot of Sundays at that track my dad like to go and I had a uncle who raced every thing he owned LOL had a room full of trophy's ( not sure what ever happened to them . wish I had ask for one as a remembrance item from him

1st time I drove a car was at the track my dads 69 Torino. later on i raced some ( 69 camaro I still have ) but mostly my buddies and I would hang out and just watch and learn

my first really " fall in love with car " it belonged to a buddy of my uncle ( doughby (sp) what they called him ) it was a dark green 55 chevy tinted window, tilt fiberglass front end , BBC tunnel ram , Gasser . all jacked up with ladder bars that went on forever LOL even today I would love to have a old school 55 chevy gasser
