This has been a weird day......a scream from the front yard

Somewhere near sunset often finds my bride and I sitting on the front porch watching the sun go down over the lake across the road....Tonight I head out there to sit and unwind from an unusually odd day....five minutes into it, I have two skeeter bites and more buzzing my head, so I figure it is time to call it a night.....

I head back in and my bride stays out and plays with Martha the cat....I am in the kitchen and hear a scream from the front yard and out the door I go....Martha is trying to get at something and my bride is trying to get a hold of her.... She yells there is a big snake, I stepped on it !!!...I could see the outline of the snake so I hit it with flashlight.....a 4 foot black snake...took a couple pics and picked it up and set it in a hollow tree stump away from the house...

Things have quieted down now 😉

my wife would have done the same if caught off guard. if she is aware of them she is Ok as far as not panic button time but unexpected snake catches her by surprise all bets are off

I'm not a snake person but I LOVE black snakes!! If you got a few black snakes around your house and outbuildings mice and rats will be a distant memory. Way better than cats!!

Your cat would have learned the hard way about black snakes. My Beagle is scared to death of any stick that even looks like a snake. I'm pretty sure she attacked a black snake one day and got bitten. Hopefully that will teach her to stay away from copperheads.
