When Packard was still AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME !

1948 Packard Custom Eight Convertible

Love this body style ! 😎

It's being willing. I found out early that most men, regardless of cause or need, aren't willing. They blink an eye or draw a breath before they pull the trigger. I won't. ~ J.B. Books

My dad grew up in Yellowstone and had a pretty hot little Ford. Another gent in the community had a Packard like that with a big old straight eight. It wasn't quick off the line but good God almighty was it fast.

They'd brag about their cars, and one day he challenged my dad to a race. Sheridan to Cheyenne, and he'd give my dad a 3 hour head start.

    🤣

In h.s. I worked at a Clark station, gased and check oil in several of those (mostly old ladies).

Very similar to Mercury of that era. Never will forget Corporal Miller came pulling into Motor Pool one night with his Mercury that had a chopped top. Stuffed in the trunk, believe it or not was another motor that he had found at a Junk yard about ten miles away. His motor was on it's last legs and desperate people do desperate things. He was looking for help and yes we helped him make the swap.---------------------------Ray

If anyone gets to the Dayton Ohio area, there is a nice Packard museum in the downtown area. It used to be a Packard dealership back in the day.

My favorite Packards were like the second one in the first picture.

Yesterday in town I happened to get behind a red Ferrari that was following one of the brand new Corvettes that was a powder blue color. Beautiful cars, and they sounded phenomenal, but given the choice between one of those screamers and that ol' Packard I'd take the Packard every time.

I knew as old guy when I was barely a teenager and not really interested in cars and he drove several different Packard cars. I would go admire his Packard cars when he came to visit my dad. Paint always looked 6 inches deep and nice interior.

He drove so many different ones, I suspect they were rentals.
