I have had a few guns over the years with notches. Who knows but men or Buffalo maybe so
did you ever notch a gun ?
Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.

Never notched one, and never owned one that was notched. I've had a few with bayonet cuts, and one with a plugged up bullet hole through the stock.
I see a patch box in the pic, what rifle is it?
I notched a few.....by accident. 😥
Yep, I've owned a couple of Colt Single Actions from the 1890's that had a couple of notches in the bottom of the stocks.
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
I have one old .50-70 single shot that has three clearly intentionally made notches in the underside of the stock. Three buffalo?
one little , two little , three little ,
oh never mind don't want to go down that rabbit hole
Top is an 1874 Business and bottom Sharps 1859 musket
Looks more like bad bump marks.
Those look more like dings from handling, saddle wear, etc. than notches.
