I'm Still A Peace Officer, For Two More Years Anyway
We have to get a certain number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) per two-year training cycle to maintain our certification. The Wuhan Flu knocked out a lot of in-person classes, and I was recovering from major surgery, so I got WAY behind on my training hours.
The cycle ended yesterday, August 31. I got an email from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) stating the deadline and the number of hours I needed. It was a lot. Fortunately, TCOLE offers online training for free.
Yes, I had access to the training, but kept putting it off. Why put off until tomorrow what you can put off until next month?
So, I spent the better part of two days online, slogging through some very boring material, so I could get certificates in those courses.
At any rate, I got it all done, just under the wire, so I am still a Peace Officer. In Texas, if one maintains training and firearms qualification, one can continue to be a Peace Officer, even if not affiliated with any law enforcement agency. Firearms is later this month.

So what you are saying is that anything said on here can be held against us? I'm innocent, I tell ya!
That was said in my best Rodney Dangerfield impression.😁 Bob
Good for you Mr. Nunn!
👮
I say go rouge and round up some criminals.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Yeah, a modern day Frank Hamer.
I wish. The days when an officer could behave the way Hamer did are long gone. I'm pretty sure most of the shootings in which he was involved would not pass muster today. It's not real clear how many there were. Estimates vary somewhere between 53 and 80.
Wokism, political correctness, and ** courts have damn near ruined the profession. The military following at a fast pace. Even worse, many young people are no longer interested because of the negativity portrayed on media daily.
The number of officers taking early retirement and quitting of the profession are startling. Particularly where there are DEMOCRATS.
...Congrats David...😉...you're a good man...you're the type of cop I would want to be stopped by...I wont jinx myself and mention how many years its been since Ive gotten stopped, had one ticket in my life, I was in college at the time....a very long time ago...told him the truth, "my speedometer is broken, susposed to take it in tomorrow to be fixed"...gave me a ticket anyway...😁
I don't know for sure why I go to the trouble. Pride, I reckon. I don't "need" an officer's certification; I have a carry card as a retired officer that is as good as a police ID, so gun toting isn't an issue. But, if I stay certified, I may be offered a temporary position one day for which I need the certification.
Glad to hear it. I hope you can pass your skills and procedures on to some rookies. We need more of the old school Peace Officers and fewer of the revenue-collectors whose job it is to generate as much income for the county as possible. I am very fortunate to live where I do; the cops here are level-headed and down-to-earth.
Nunn , I expect you keep your cert for leo the same reason I hold on to my firefighter certs . At age 66 I am not going to go head to head with the young bucks in a interior fire attack or rescue situation . Knowing I still can if the need arises keeps me going .I have one buddy who has served as an active member for over 50 years .
You mods need that certification. Been quiet here, too quiet!
Seriously though congrats!
You sir, will always be a Peace Officer.
Congrats on the official certification.
does that mean you keep your badge and still have the authority to arrest an individual?????? more so than a citizens arrest
I'm not real sure how that works, and haven't encountered such a situation yet. I keep a badge on me just in case.

"I say go rouge and round up some criminals."
When Mr. Nunn "goes rouge" it should probably be in private and wouldn't be conducive to rounding up bad guys. I would be curious as to his favorite color though.
Maybe a little tasteful mascara or eyeliner, but rouge is probably overdoing things.....
