Good day at the neighbors and a range report with the Benelli SBE3

Today was a good day....My neighbor caught me after church and said they were having a cook out and shoot some Clays down at their place. 15 of us each shot 2 or three turns at the little sporting clays type range they have set up. Two automatic throwers different heights/speed etc. between some trees still on the range. A nice informal set up...

Due to weird weather, the beginning of harvest and other issues, we have not all been out dove hunting yet so today was the first chance to shoot the my new Benelli Super Black Eagle 3. I shot 75 rounds and let two other left handed gentleman shoot another 25 rds each. So a total of 128 rounds with 3 extra rounds I fired to get a feel for it. Federal and Winchester 8 shot field loads...all fed and ejected without a hitch...

I did OK....18, 19 and 20 of 25....the two young gentlemen shot 23 and 24 of 25.....The best news of all is the difference in felt recoil. Last time I shot with these folks I felt like I had been beat up after about 25 rounds through my old Ithaca. I don't feel like I fired a shot today so I believe I made the right move buying this shotgun....

The evening concluded with brats, brisket some great homemade side dishes and a choice of five different deserts...

Good fellowship, some fun shooting, and great food with good friends and neighbors.....it does not get a whole lot better than that !!!!

I had a similar day. Always great days like this.

Spent most of the day at a steam thresher/old tractor show. Then trap shooting with my wife, son, nephew and best friend. My daughter isn't into shooting that much but ran the thrower for us. Brother and his wife came by on the Ranger and hung out for a bit also.

All in all a pretty good day.

I'm interested to hear about this reduced recoil sensation. I've basically had to quit shooting a 12 ga due to my bum shoulder.

WOW, Just did a search and found the price on that gun is well beyond my price range.

I have shot a lot of different shotguns and if you are looking for the most recoil reduction try a gas operated semi auto. Recoil sensation can be influenced by several things. How the gun fits you is important. The ammo used - a 2 3/4 dram 1 ounce load will break just as many clays as a 3 dram 1 1/8 load and kick a lot less. The type and weight of gun - fixed breech guns have a sharper kick than semi autos. By spreading out that recoil impulse over a longer time semis turn that sharp kick into a push. The recoil type actions like the Benelli do this but the gas guns like the Winchester X series or the Remington VersaMax really take the edge off of the kick. If you had an unlimited budget I would recommend getting a Fabarm xlr5, because that is the softest kicking shotgun I have ever fired. If you want almost as good on a budget look for a used Winchester SX2. I have one and it is a pretty soft shooter. If your bum shoulder still protests then the same gas actions in 20 GA is a pretty darn effective package. Bob

I was having the same issue with my shoulders. As Bob/Judy stated the recoil with my BSE3 is a push instead of a snappy recoil. Night and day difference for me. I shot 78 rounds total and had no shoulder issues the next day.

The price…..well worth every cent to me….I am looking forward to some dove hunting this month, some duck hunting later this year and some buddies have been talking about pheasant hunting in South Dakota .. None of that would be in play for me with my old Ithaca or 870…
