I went fishing last night in a pond that is way down from being used for irrigation....I have a habit of picking up interesting looking rocks for my bride's various little gardens around our place. This one was found in an area where the water would usually have been 8 to 10 feet deep.
I really do not want to cut it open, but am wondering if you rock hounds think it is a Geode...It is between baseball and softball size

How did you get it to stick to the wall like that?

...Kinda looks like one, but that, is a guess...take it to a lapidary shop, someone there should be able to tell you with reasonable certainty w/o cutting it open...
You have to crack it open to be sure.
Smack it with a hammer and see.
If I saw it, I would pick it up, expecting it to be a "thunderegg".
Thunderegg ?
Yep! Maybe a slang term, but one commonly used, I believe. There are places in central orygone that bill themselves as thunderegg ranches. For a fee, you can search their property for geodes, or "thundereggs".
Drill a hole in it & take a peek.
I tend to pick up strange rocks also.I have one on my desk I picked up far back in the woods that a magnet will stick to.
MU Geology department. Not that far, you will learn stuff.
Looks like one. Is it lighter in weight than what it appears for size. Can you hear any loose crystals on the inside if you shake it? Is it hollow sounding if you tap it? Put safety glasses on, cover it with a cloth, and smack it open, you got me curious.
I really would take it to someone who knows and have them cut it in half. If its unimpressive, you won't be out much. If it is a geode you'll be glad you DIDN'T destroy it with a hammer!
I'd say no. The outside is missing the rough "surface of the moon" look. I bet it's an agate. Here are photos from my friend's place in eastern washington, he's fairly "into" rocks. First is the agates, then the geodes. Note the difference in the outside "bark".
This is the best course of action.
Thanks all…..there were others where I found this one. I grabbed it due to it’s shape. I will get one of the ugly ones and break it open. Then I will have a better idea…
I hope you at least try a hacksaw. They can cut rock. Use a fine tooth blade and not too much pressure.
Heard about a big smoking object or rock possibly from outer space that crashed through the roof of a house.
Had quite an odor and it was smoking.
Rock inspectors, FBI, Geologist, rock hounds, State Police, Local sheriffs, and they evacuated the area all around for several miles and went in cautiously with Haz mat suits so as to analyze.
It was determined after few days that someone had dumped the commode holding tank on a high flying airplane, it froze while coming through the atmosphere.
No Global warming this time.
Okie- that is proof that even if you live in a nuclear free zone, you can still be hit by an icy BM.
