Yes! and I am 78.------------------------------Ray
I used to go and help a guy who lived to hunt when he was in his late 80's. He spent much of the year planning for the hunt and making each season a success. My fringe benefit was being able to hunt in close proximity to his stand on hundreds of acres of Michigan orchard lands. He gave me all the fresh picked fruit; cherries, apples, pears, peaches, and honey that I could cart away in my pickup!
I would always load all of his rifles, clean them, and do all of the grunt work after a lethal shot was fired. Our arrangement became quite a friendship over several years and we continued to hunt together until he was 90! Passing away a few years ago about 3 months short of his 91st birthday.
hillbille-I hear ya! Been out (only about an hour) at 30 below, no wind chill, back then just part of the hunt! Absolutely no interest at this point in time. Times are a changing😉
I have been letting the Mrs. hunt deer the last three years and I was the gut man. She broke her right index finger and just had surgery yesterday, no hunting this year, darn the luck.🤐🙃
Use to get out about 4 am and drive 40 miles to hunt. Come heck or high water.
There were no deer in the area where I live.
Now the critters are every where around here and it would have to be a whopper for me to shoot it off the front porch.
Just came in from the deer watching session, sat on a RTV of course, saw 8 , 4 does and 4 bucks, a 10, 7, 6, and a spike all together, and to beat it all when I pulled back into the yard there was 6 point under the apple tree, about 20 yards away and had no concern for me. Yes I was armed to the teeth. Bear season is open.
I have always had better luck in the afternoon. When I was hunting I would Duck hunt in the morning and deer hunt the afternoon.
Been there and done that a few times
Not there yet at 62......this is the time of year I have modified my sleep times....in bed earlier and up at 430...By the time hunting season rolls around I am ready to roll..
I always liked the phrase...."The older I get...the better I was ! " 😀
An early morning hunt would have me getting warmly bundled up, a cup of fresh coffee to prepare me for the trek to our back deck- lay my rifle on the shooting bags on the table........... and wait for Bambi. Distance from door to the table- about 10 ft.
Sometimes you just have to sacrifice for the sport, y'know.
That ain't hunting, that's harvesting! Of course as I have gotten older I have come to appreciate harvesting a whole lot more. Bob
That small tree to left is a persimmon. Have watched deer stand on hind legs to reach low branches and fight over ones on the ground. In Virginia I could harvest from the back door. Now, if I could just find a way to get back to Virginia.------------------------------Ray
4205raymond drive south🤣
VERY, VERY quickly.......
Don't come to TX.................we are being flooded with immigrants.
Well I never been to heaven
But I been to West Virginia
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter
If only my wife were as happy/healthy as picture above. I fear she would never survive selling our NY home, fixing up Virginia home and making the trip down. What can I say, it is overwhelming.
A few years back I was burning up I81 South and I64 East in my Silverado. Now my 2020 Ram just sits lonely in the driveway. Will be 2 years old in December and just turned 5,000 miles
Guess for now my good friend and neighbor on the left will just have to keep on shooting the whitetails for me.------------------------------Ray
Dano, three acres.-------------------Ray
About mid-way between Charlottesville and Richmond. Very Rural.-----------------Ray
The older I get, the more I realize that had I known I was gonna live this long, I wooda taken better care of myself!
Like getting duck. Don't have to get wet or pluck the feathers then cook it and pick shots out your mouth. You can go to a Chinese joint where they already have it ready to eat.
