Birmingham now has "real time" crime fighting....cameras everywhere, several arrests already

I go back and forth on this.....cameras watching non stop seems like something we should not be supporting, but Birmingham is a zoo and it might just help to knock crime down a bit??? Who knows?

Its when they use the cameras to keep up with your day to day movements that I see in our future.

You can only house so many critters in the jail and its not going to change until people stop glorifying being a criminal.....so we will need to abandon one entire state to build a prison large enough to hold all the criminals if they monitor everywhere.

This technology will spread like crazy over The USA.The Orwellian system will be in full force for all Citizens. Make one move against the state, and you get your trial and Jury and then stripped of your rights.

The whole world will be under surveillance with the internet of all things. Welcome to the new paradigm. Not tin foil anymore, is it?

There is plenty of room in our jails/prisons, that isn't the issue. The issue is we have the highest incarceration rate of any industrialized nation. If we only jailed those truly deserving there would be room to keep them. The war on drugs has ramifications of which many are very long term.

Catching a few people with these type cameras doesn't warrant the intrusion into our privacy.

No joke....its beyond bonkers in some areas of Birmingham.

They keep building these little "new age" areas in the dead center of the nonsense. If you want to get dinner, craft beer, and finish it off with some hand crafted nonsense popsicles its in the center of a triangle that includes a methadone clinic, the worst housing projects in the city, and the food stamp office. I don't know what the thought process is that lead to this happening....but its crazy to see the millennials renting the bicycles, bubble blowing on the sidewalk, people walking around with a slice of pizza and just a block down you don't DARE have your windows down or stop your car for any reason.

There are thousands and thousands of federal laws on the books and now there is enough computing power to analyze all the data being collected. If you become a person worth looking at for any reason, you don't stand a chance of avoiding federal prison. Add to that state laws and state prison. It's definitely NOT a good thing. Ever. Do your best to fight it where you are.

How well do the cameras work with a properly worn face mask?

Some time back IIRC I read there were 286,000 punishable offenses written into law most by regulatory agencies congress sloughed off their job to. I like to ask people what law did you break this week? To which they reply none and I ask How would you know do you have all 286,000 of them memorized?

Unfortunately * recognition tech is not thwarted by your typical covid mask. Possibly with a combination of mask and sunglasses that properly obscure.

So, apparently face - ial... spelled properly is an autocensor banned word?🙄

What I find funny is I can get pulled over DURING THE DAY for a headlight being out.....but I see thousands of cars running all over town with paper license plates, most with nothing at all. Its my pet peeve that frustrates me to no end. They could spend an entire day each week writing nothing but tickets for no registration, probably no insurance, and make these people get their ducks in a row.....but no, lets just wait on some woman in a spotless car, driving the speed limit with a daytime headlight out and then snap into action.
