just a quick reality check............
most on here complain about the cost of ammo and how much a single round costs, when it comes to hunting I would say most are in 50 cent to maybe $1 per round at most. so to go and kill that deer if you wait and get a good one shot kill it cost say a dollar per deer. Now lets look at crossbow!! got a 3 pack of broadheads and they are the cheapest wally world had 3-$10. then arrows/bolts another 3pack with lighted tips ( everyone said to get these as finding the arrow is so much easier, and it is!!) these cost $29 per 3pack, so even going the cheap route you are just at $13 dollar a shot. sometimes you just gotta love the hunt more than the wallet...............
and I can tell you any small twig the size of your finger CAN throw one of these $13 arrows into a tree an inch or two past the broadhead which makes removal without a chainsaw near impossible and lets deer run off laughing at that old guy struggling to get out of a pop up blind without falling down.......

If you shoot 3 and find all of them, the price is cut in half.

If you shoot your gun and the bullet hist a limb, what happens?
If only the cost were limited to the method of take. Processing, unless you do it yourself, ain't cheap and processing takes time, if nothing else. Plus transportation costs, tags and license fees, and what about the cost of the weapon itself? Knives aren't free either.
People I know who hunt, don't do it for any cost savings. I know I certainly don't.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I have known a few actually, though in the end they got caught and the fines totaled more than a side of beef........
I live in a very rural area where 50-75% of kids in the schools receive free breakfast and lunch at school...most of them also get "buddy packs" with food in them for the weekend. I have met a few folks that depend on the venison they harvest each year just to get by....
I fear there will be more as things run in short supply.....
My hunting arrows cost about 20 bucks each by the time I add a quality broadhead and tweak the nocks...when I shoot something with them, they are usually toast.
sometimes you just gotta love the hunt more than the wallet..
Exactly
You have now.
Being able to buy meat from the store and inside plumbing are a couple of things not to be taken for granted. 😉
2 1lb pkg of ground chuck $4.78 lb ($9,56), 4 petite fillet mignon $26.82 lb They were all very small ($35.94) so for a total of $45.50 for enough beef for the wife and I to have 4-5 dinners depending upon how we used the ground chuck....this was at Wally world today, the same amount 3 months ago would have been about $31.00...anyways with your $1 bullet or a $30 arrow you would have a heck of a lot more meat, of course there are the other fees associated with the hunting as mentioned above, my point is if these prices keep going up, I may have to become a Poacher as there are plenty of deer around my place...
