Detonics Combat Master

I had one many years ago and wished I still did so much that I bought one yesterday. It is in excellent shape. It is a stainless MK VI. I have a question maybe someone here can answer. This one, instead of having the "bobbed" grip below the hammer, has a beavertail. Does anyone know if this was a factory option or is it more likely a mod done by someone? It looks great and I really don't mind it but might like to have the shorter grip piece (if I could even find the part). Thanks.

I have an early one and the grip safety is pinned. Mine is a blued Mark IV with the later spur hammer. I got mine used at a gun show in WA around 1984. I carried it for a few years and have shot it a bunch. Its a great gun and it has only hung up on me a few times with reloads. When I carried it I loaded it with ball ammo.

I have seen a DCM with a beavertail grip safety but it was done by a gunsmith and was not original.

When Detonics first started making them many did not work. It was common for smiths to get them to work using Colt parts.
