Pontoon boat question
asop
Member Posts: 8,979 ✭✭✭✭
Put it in the garage (set it on 8 "padded" concrete blocks) a few weeks ago and started to service it today. Been doing this for 12 years. Sounds were coming from the front of both toons like someone was taping on them with a hard rubber hammer!! What in the world would cause this? Thanks

air temperature/pressure from outside to inside warm garage cause the pontoons to pop.....?
didn't leave any fish in the livewell did ya????????
Likely air pressure changes.
My ammo cans do this to when there is a big change in the weather.
It was acturally rather "spooky" the sounds coming from it! Maybe 10 taps per toon. ROY may have the answer, I'll keep "an ear out" and report back if anything exciting happens. Thanks
Try cracking open the ports on top of the tubes. Should be one for every chamber. That will let you know if it was a pressure difference.
Most likely air pressure, as noted. The term for it is "oil canning" from the way that empty but sealed oil drums pop and boom as air pressure and/or temperature change, causing the metal walls to flex.
