Have you ever thought about weapon retention? Have you trained, practiced?

Required training, practice, and testing.
Trained? Honestly...no.
I think in most self defense scenarios it's taken for granted that the good guy will know than the bad guy, but that may not always be the case.
I can't say I will be worried about empty mags until the fight is finished. I think that as I have gotten older the adrenaline does not effect me like it did when I was a young man. Having been instructed by family that are Peace Officers has helped me in how to conduct myself in ammunition management for threat]s encountered. I do not wear a lanyard, and have practiced in different shooting positions, and from around cars, trucks and buildings.
A good friend that is now a retired St.Lou Co.PD Det. told me to avoid the fight if possible but if there are no options that 2 placed shots are better than a mag dump. Double tap double tap double tap and movement if possible. Having some professional instruction goes a long way and to retain that knowledge is critical in how the outcome happens.
And retention will be 2 cartridges.
When I took the CCW training class, it was drilled into us to shoot 2 to the chest and 1 to the head. Repeat as necessary, These guys were certified NRA trainers and several were deputies and officers.

Yes I do.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Somebody smarter than me said a quick good shot is better than a slow perfect shot.
