we have several ( couple were used ) not sure the brands I would have to dig them out to check had them for a long time I would say 50 to maybe 100.00 the most I paid for any of them . at least two have the vacuum hose that is used for jars and container's , I bought a canning jar set that uses regular canning jars to be sealed for them late fall, but have not tried them you load the canning jar lid in and run the vacuum it has a adapter to fit standard and wide mouth jars suppose to work great but time will tell

as far as the sealers all do what there suppose to do . the heating strip is what I have heard tends to go bad but for a few dollars new ones can be had .

if I had a gripe its the bag plastic pre cut or the x foot long strips cost so much , wife told me on youtube some have started using the heavy zip lock bags cut the seal off and use the bag I am sure lots of info on the internet

as much as Like fresh food or what we grow, its still hard to beat spending less than a dollar on a can of beans tomatoes corn or what ever at the local markets

40+ years ago I remember telling my FIL is it worth having a garden the time effort canning and the time it takes but any store had canned goods were 4 or 5 for a dollar at the time

Plenty of them on fleabay . Type in Commercial vacuum sealer. stay away from the 15-20 dollar ones and spend 40-50 on one.

I bought this one off Amazon recently and it works just fine.

For $300 I could have 6 of them.

I have a Foodsaver brand. Got tired of spending $$$$$ on their brand of bags and rolls, and started buying 1-quart and 1-gallon premade bags on Fleabay by the 100s. We vac seal a lot of our food before freezing. The last thing I sealed was several pounds of pecan halves, which will last at least a year without going stale. We buy ground beef in 5 lb packages, then seal in 1 lb portions for later use.

When I process my own venison, all of it is vac sealed. Ground meat is sealed then flattened so it doesn't take up a lot of space in the freezer.

Like grdad45, we have a Foodsaver brand. We have been using it for a number of years and it still works. We buy a bit more at a time, but we do our ground beef the same way he does, along with other foods.

I would suggest that you put a date on the package when you seal it, if you don't already.

We were going to freeze food from our garden this year, but when something got ripe, we ate it. I think we need a bigger garden. 😁

We've had Foodsavers for over 20 years. We are on our second one currently. My wife has issues getting it to work, but I can get it to work every time. She has issues with most things mechanical, so I can't blame the machine. The most common issue we have is the rubber seal comes loose and won't seal up right. A few seconds pushing it back in place and all is well.

I bought one from walmart for about 150 bucks, five years or more ago. Works like a champ every time. we use it constantly.

Look at the chamber sealers. We tried several of the type that simple suck air out of the bag. Problem is, none of them worked with fresh meat. We bought a residential chamber sealer and NEVER looked back. It was around $500 but the bags are dirt cheap, seals anything even a bag of water! If you don't want to freeze ur meat first, then chamber vacs are the way to go! Ours is vacmaster, but don't see the one we have available anymore. The ones I saw with a quick search were 800, still worth the extra to me!

    I use a commercial Cabela’s 12” vacuum sealer.

I’ve had it for 6-8 years? No issues with it, it replaced a cheaply from somewhere else.

I really like the manual seal feature that allows a second quick seal and can be used if the contents are real moist. Also use their remade bags, saves time when you have a lot to do.

I will get a workout tomorrow as Bambi moves into plastic for the winter!
