Scrapping permit &%#@$!
Trying to clean up a little and I have some aluminum and copper I can scrap. Due to the Government responding to problems like Gun violence by punishing the Honest Citizen here in South Carolina we have to get a permit to sell non ferrous metals.
Why the hell don't they regulate the few buyers closely rather then screw with citizens? Clearly the permit doesn't work since we still read articles almost weekly about Catalitic (sp) Converters being stolen, or HVAC units disappearing.
Another classic example of screwing with the people instead of the criminal. Needless to say I had to wait 20 minutes to get a piece of paper saying I can scrap non ferrous metal.
It would be easy enough to require the buyers to record all sales with SC ID and go after the buyers who break the law. t it is always adding layers of BS the Government is best at.

I would also bet those permits cost money.
Nah... they are free.. at the Sheriff's office
I think here in Ohio last I heard they ask for a ID and take your photo at the scrap recycle yards when you take any thing in
Even on iron, they have recorded the license plate numbers here in Idaho for quite a few years. Don't believe they require a vax card yet though.
anyone want to buy my scrap converters i took of my truck ?
I still see you have that pretty lady on your arm😉. We don't need anything to scrap here. Just scrapped my copper for the year at 3.60. I got 5,800 for it. Time to buy that Marlin 45 cowboy I wanted and a Marlin 218 bee. Thank god I have ammo for both. We had talked about buying a place in Hilton head , to be close to my brother in law, my best friend, But I didn't care for some of their gun laws and such. Now I know I made a wise decision , since I will still be doing some hvac work and scrapping
What gun laws in SC ????
No permit Orange County, NY. Owner makes me sign receipt with weight and amount paid out.-----------------------Ray
Thats just crazy
After some jerks picked up the 5,000 pound engine at an Amish sawmill and sold it for scrap the county decided every purchase had to be videotaped and DL and person's photo recorded. That lasted a couple of years before they settled back to just recording DL of seller.
I'm trying to get old metal barn torn down before prices go down again ;)
For all y'all complaining about ID requirements- ever here that a vacant house has been "termited"? Copper thieves go thru an empty house, rip out all the wiring, heat pump copper, any copper pipe. They get $100 worth of copper. Do $15,000 in damage to the property.
What's lead going for a pound now??
