I don't recall stipulating that any donation that I made could only be used for white people. I always figured that giving to those in need came with no conditions and was the Christian thing to do. If they don't agree, I may have to rethink that position. Bob

What a disturbing thing to ask.

Funny how whenever I put money in the can where Santa is ringing his bell, I have never once thought that my donation was making a racist statement!!

Pretty sure this new WOKE position the Salvation Army is taking will be biting their charities in the a.s.s.

I will make sure my whiteness gives a wide berth to any bell ringers and just asked my wife to avoid the salvation thrift stores.

Hmm, the number one organization I supported with what I could. The kettles will be a little less heavy this year. This is insane.

  • chiefrchiefr Member Posts: 14,083 ✭✭✭✭

I donate every year to SA. Never again!!

Looks like they are now a DEMOCRAT party PAC.

  • Sam06Sam06 Member Posts: 21,244 ✭✭✭✭

I'll get right on that as I walk past the bell ringer. I wouldn't think they would want any money from a raycist.

Just looked at their website. I cannot find the reported position paper there. Maybe I am just not good at searches.

I'm thinking like pulsarnc. This isn't the Salvation Army I am familiar with. I will also concede we live in extremely strange times so anything is possible. Before we all get seriously P.O. at the Salvation Army could someone way more computer literate than I am please check this out to see if it is true or just some troll who hates The Salvation Armies Christian approach to charity stirring the pot??

I want to know for sure about The Salvation Army before I start thinking negatively about what I have always thought was one of the best charities to support!

Oh well, that will leave me more money to spend on my wife. I've stuck 20's in the pot for years, no more.

When (not if) their donations dry up, they will be able to point to a single point in time to explain why.

I won't apologize for being born white. They can hate me because my skin isn't dark, I can pretend they don't exist.

  • Ruger4meRuger4me Member, Moderator Posts: 3,805 ******

The title is misleading imo, this is about an internal training document recommended for their people, I don't agree with any of this WOKE, CRT crapola, but this is not the salvation army telling you as donors to apologize... I personally think they had good intentions of trying to make their people aware of these issues, but embracing this stuff is purely political and not what the organization is all about. They just need to continue following their Christian principles and they would be fine. My older sister runs one of their shelters for many years now and they help any and all people that need it.

If I write a $1,000.00 check and put ‘ I apologize for nothing!’ in the memo line, will they cash it?

For years the Salvation Army has been my go to charity. I just put $20.00 in one of your kettles yesterday, the first one I have seen this year. I never pass one without donating. Then I read about your "Woke" policy this morning. Well you folks enjoy your misguided journey but you will do it without my money. I will find some other way to help those less fortunate. Richard Wright.

I went on their website and yes the crap about us being racist is there. I just sent them the above email. There is a battered women shelter here that will get all of my charitable contributions from this time forward.

  • sxsnufsxsnuf Member Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭✭

I'm confident their coffers will be filled to overflowing with donations from those few who support the woke mafia mindset, and those wallowing in white guilt. From this day forward, I'll spare myself the white shame of reaching for my wallet as I approach the bell ringers.

We just talked about donating/donations to charities and had liked them and their usage of funds versus overhead and CEO salaries of some companies. I would have to rethink donating if they wish to play the blame game.

I see this "news" is spreading like wildfire. Being reported by MANY sources. Some creditable, some definitely NOT. Where are the creditable ones getting it from?????

I admit that I am no computer guru, but I searched local, USA, and international Salvation Army sites and could not find THEM making this statement. Sure LOTS of people (sites) "discussing it" but where is the original source?

This makes me think about Jim Zumbo's ordeal. He lost his job, affiliates, endorsements etc. in a matter of days, because of what he said. (and deservedly so) But because of the internet and social media sites the way they are now days, it would not take a computer literate person long to accomplish what is being done here.

It makes no difference to me about Salvation Army, my charitable donations go to St Jude's Children's Hospital.

Some of the links posted by members here FORCE you to download something on your computer, even after closing that window. I am not going to do it from sources I am suspicious of to begin with. I had to close every window and reboot my computer to get rid of it. So I do not know what they said,

Until I see a Salvation Army site (that does not FORCE you to download......whatever) with this request on it, I am putting this in the......someone wants to hurt the Salvation Army file.

Let's Talk About... Racism COMPLETE SET.indd

I found a few paragraphs about repentance on page 26. There are 67 pages and I only skimmed them until I found this. Make of it what you will however I suggest taking it in contents of the whole study guide from a religious organization and remember it is their study guide.

  • select-fireselect-fire Member Posts: 69,452 ✭✭✭✭

Just the fact a non profit got involved in telling and informing folks is wrong. I don't need their advice.

  • bullshotbullshot Member Posts: 14,684 ✭✭✭✭

If this is true, I'm done with them. Screw the Salvation Army, given them tons of stuff including cash for many many years .............. never again.

If they think that they can thank me for all I've done for the Salvation Army over the years by calling me a racist, they can think again. I hope that this stupid statement completely eliminates ALL donations by ALL of the white folks in this country.

    Here's my apology:

I'm sorry, I don't donate to racist organizations.

  • mogley98mogley98 Member Posts: 18,291 ✭✭✭✭

" defines racism as ‘The belief that races have distinctive cultural characteristics

determined by hereditary factors and that this endows some races with an intrinsic superiority

    over others."

Well thank goodness I'm not raycist based on SA interpretation, I have no belief that race carries any cultural characteristics determined by hereditary factors and therefore no endowment of intrinsic superiority. Whew.

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I can't find in their literature where it tells me as a white man I should be apologizing. They address racism. They talk about their organization not always being fair in that area. They discuss their idea of how society should not have racism. They discuss what they see as the effects of racism. While I may not agree with all their writings I'm also sure I do not agree with the ideas of everyone here. They address many things but I can't find where it tells me as a white man I need to apologize to any other race.

Here is the some text from LSD's link:

PRACTICAL RESPONSES The universality of God’s love is clearly declared in Scripture, and must be actualised in the daily living of people (1 John 4:20). Racism is a wrong that needs to be countered and calls for truthful acknowledgement, rectification and reconciliation on an organisational, individual and societal level.

Responding at an organisational level: The Salvation Army is committed to equality, disavows discrimination and affirms racial diversity. Sorrow and repentance are needed for any negative legacy that past shortcomings have created. We acknowledge that Salvationists have sometimes conformed to economic, political, social and internal pressures that perpetuate racism. • The Salvation Army will make and encourage efforts to challenge and overcome racism wherever it exists. • The Salvation Army must always be vigilant and guard against the infiltration of racism in our organisation. • The Salvation Army recognises the importance of robust systems to report and discuss racism without fear and will endeavour to provide these. • The Salvation Army will continue to make efforts to ensure ethnic diversity in international and territorial leadership. • The Salvation Army will promote the value of ethnic diversity and inclusiveness in all expressions of Salvation Army life including prioritising resources for the education and development of all personnel. • The Salvation Army will regularly review its investment portfolios to ensure that they are consistent with the values and beliefs it proclaims.

Responding at an individual level: • Salvationists are expected to take personal action against racism motivated by their obedience to the example of Jesus and their respect of the image of God in every person. • Salvationists are expected to seek to influence the attitudes of others by expressly rejecting racial stereotypes, slurs and jokes. • Salvationists should raise their families to appreciate the diversity of cultures and ethnicities. • Salvationists are encouraged to join with others in combined efforts to bring about justice for the victims of racism.

Responding at a societal level: The Salvation Army will seek to influence governments, businesses, civil society and other faith communities to: • Pursue goals of racial and economic justice. This should include efforts to achieve fair working conditions, adequate income, safe and secure housing, educational opportunities that will enhance life, and health care that is accessible irrespective of ethnicity. • Be aware of its responsibility to promote racial justice and ethnic diversity in private and public sectors of life. • Avoid and resist rhetoric that can contribute to ethnic stereotyping. • Encourage all people – especially leaders in society – to recognize the negative effects of racism in society and commit to rid the world of this injustice.

In the materiel they do seem to be sending the message that structural racism exist and should be addressed. I think that is overblown here in the USA. I am also aware they are in many countries and started in Britain. They do a lot of good work helping those in need. While I question their approach to this I do not take it personal. Sending a message by not contributing to their cause may be warranted but I think the narrative to do so is a bit overblown.
