Outside offer to buy???

elubsmeelubsme Member Posts: 2,200 ✭✭✭✭

I was not high bidder on #917575811. I received an Email from JNB1965 asking me what I would pay for the rifle. I told him to relist it and I would rebid on it. His last Email was " Tell me how you want this transaction to be done I need a quick response from you." Am I being scammed? Thanks, Ed

How do you know the email is really from JNB1965? Heck, I could be the real seller of that rifle.

Go ahead, ask me something about the rifle only I would know. Or request a picture from me showing the rifle in a specific position (muzzle left, bolt open) with a piece of paper next to it with specific writing on it (beware the Ides of March). To prove I even HAVE the rifle. Anyone could swoop in here and masquerade as someone else.

He might be the real seller, trying to avoid fees. Maybe the high bidder backed out. Maybe he's trying to game the system here. Regardless, it's fishy.

I like your answer to relist it and you'll rebid on it. Tell him what to set the Buy It Now price at, and if he has fees from having to relist it, split those with him and tack it onto the selling price. AFTER you've seen the photo you request.

Be careful Ed. Lots of scammers out there.

It's a scam, end of story. "Quick response" from you? It's not the seller plus that is not allowed and completely not ethical IF it is him and it isn't. ymmv,, Wouldn't touch that with with a hot poker.

Eddie, you're on the right track with telling the seller to re-list. If he won't do that, then he's a scammer for sure.

He should relist with different pictures.

You did it right!!!!!!!!!!!! I want the security of GB and don't do side deals. I have had offers to buy guns after auctions have ended and refuse them every time. To me, if I sold it this way, I would be screwing GB out of the share, for allowing me to sell the firearm and reaching millions of people. This site is number one for a reason. They dedicate themselves to us firearms enthusiast and allow us a place to legally sell our guns, without leaving our home. Oakie

there is no way for a seller to contact a bidder after the auction has closed unless you where all ready in contact while the auction was going , the seller doesn't have any way to start a discussion , some one that is interested in bidding is the only one that can email the seller thru the site

How did he find out your contact info?

Anyway, I wouldn't respond to any off-the-board requests. The deal stinks to high heaven.

The seller of the rifle #917575811 is listed as jnb1969 on the listing and looking at his feedback he is no longer a registered user.

I want to thank everyone who gave me advice on my question. You all confirmed my suspicions about a bogus offer. Thanks again, Eddie

He does have several good feedback entries, but all are from several years ago. Makes me think someone hijacked a legitimate account.
