The rancher, his wife and another person that tumbled down the mountain, after dark, when the trail collapsed beneath their side by side were airlifted to the hospital. 60k for the two helos was a costly ride(s).
With the multiple surgeries , inserted screws, pins, rods, etc. and hospital stay they are facing 1/2 million plus in bills ,,,,,,,,, ‘no insurance’ !!

Wife and I keep a lifeflight membership out here in the boonies. I think it is a $100 well spent. Seems everything medical is astronomical anymore.
we pay our Air Evac dues insurance dues
just in case we need a ride or 2
Neighbor here tried to wipe himself out a couple weeks ago, 9mm to the chest.
Failed, missed his heart but collapsed a lung, the chopper ride for 10 minutes was 48,000.00. Saved his life.
Both me and the wife are covered by med flight insurance. Volunteer fire department that I pulled 30 plus years in pays for our coverage. Mine is 60.00 and any additional family member is 5.00 per year.
Wife got the ride for life a few years ago, 20,000.00. We did not have the flight Ins at the time and our health ins covered all but 2,500.00.
You will never forget the sound when the bird shows up. Firefight on the battle field, wildfire and you are on the fire line, or life threatening medical emergency, all the same.
