Is it as big a disaster as 10 or does it fix all of 10's junk

First, there's only a 50/50 chance you can load it onto an existing computer. Special hardware and other stuff is needed.

Second, 11 is even more intrusive and unchangeable. You can't disable any of the "telemetry" parts (the ones that spy on your every click) or undo any of the updates it makes. You also can't tell it not to make updates or when it will do them, and you can't use your machine at all when it does. Windows OWNS your machine.

Third, almost all software now will be by subscription, meaning you have to pay for it every year, and you can't load any software it doesn't approve of.

Apple isn't much better, doing most of those same things.

If you want to truly own your machine, look into converting it to Linux. I highly recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon. Read more here...

There are YouTube vids reviewing W-11. Check some out.

Every time they do a update, I get a bunch of junk I really don't want or don't use with Win 10. If I go anywhere near their new icons they start to load.--------------Ray

Every version of Windows has taken away more and more of your options and control. Apple is not much better, if at all, but they charge you more for being their slave.

Most home users can kick them both to the curb by moving to their favorite version of Linux.

I remember the good old days when we excitedly looked forward to updated versions of software because they always contained a lot of really good and useful new stuff. But for a number of years now, new versions of anything are to be dreaded. They add a lot of stuff you don't need nor want, and rearrange the old good useful stuff so it works differently than you are used to.

You could so easily have a fast, capable, and totally private machine, jwb.

Make a bootable USB stick with Linux Mint, plug it in, boot to the stick and see. Without installing it or changing your laptop in any way - until you're convinced.

Watch this... (Both Mint and Zorin have newer versions out since this video was made, and both are superb.)

If your PC was made in 2018 or older - W-11 won't load !

    See:

Check for compatibility ... See if you're eligible for upgrade. Go to your PC and download the PC Health Check app to see if your PC can run Windows 11. Heart ...

Personally, I think the last good OS was W-7

I'll stick to my opinion that the average home user has no compelling reason to use Windows, unless maybe you're a heavy gamer - and even that is going away with new developments in Linux. Mint has every bit of software you might need with no bloatware, with access to thousands more programs if you need them. Almost all of it free. Zorin is simpler and smaller (ideal for older machines) with access to every bit of the above if you have room and memory for it. Both are intuitive to use if you come from Windows, and can be customized to look almost any way you like, be that W7, W10, MAC, Chrome, or something entirely different.

Watch the video above. Heck, run it on a separate machine or browser tab and follow along. Try Mint and/or Zorin before you install.

If you won't, you won't. Keep on cursing Windows. I've done all I can.
