The commander of the US Navy's SEAL Team 8 died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a training accident in Virginia Beach over the weekend, the Navy said.
Cmdr. Brian Bourgeois, 43, died Tuesday at Norfolk Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, the Navy announced in a statement Wednesday.
The incident is under investigation, but according to initial indications, the accident occurred during a fast-rope training exercise Saturday, according to the Navy. The training involves troops practicing descending quickly on a rope from, for example, a helicopter.

RIP Commander
Fast roping is not for the faint of heart. Its a tough way to insert and demands a lot of physical and mental power.
RIP.
I've done my share of rope work when I was younger and can still tie a pretty good bowline... But there is no way I would have been doing fast rope exercises at 43 years old.
RIO Commander.
