Any cigar smokers here????

OakieOakie Member Posts: 40,510 ✭✭✭✭

I started smoking cigars a couple years back. I enjoy the Macanudo Rothchild Maduro's and the Arturo Fuente 858 with my bourbon. What are some other mild cigars that I should try???? Who do you buy from??? I just received a box of 858's and they were stale. Bought them from JR cigars. Never again. Looking for a good online store. Prices here are just too high. I asked the wife for a humidor for Christmas, and now looking to fill it with good cigars, that I can share with my friends. Oak

Montecristo No. 4. Price becomes reasonable if purchased duty free.

Cigar's International generally has ok deals and acceptable quality, but they spam the bejesus out of you.

Stale cigars can often be rejuvenated enough to justify smoking them. Quick internet search will explain how.

Always enjoy a 60-minute hang session with a dear friend, an old scotch, and a fine cigar. Can get expensive if you let it.

I smoke a cigar just about every evening and have for the last 15 years or so. I like a strong cigar with a maduro wrapper. I like a cigar that is about a 52 or so ring size.

My goto cigar for the last 7 or 8 years has been a CAO Brazilia Gol! They are not cheap but they are tasty. For special occasions I will get a Double Ligero Chisel.

I used to smoke them back when I didn't know any better. Then got hooked on cigarettes, and finally smoked a pipe before I quit altogether back in 1985. I can't even stand to be within 50' of a smoker now.

I usually have a cigar a day. I do buy locally from my b&m but I also buy online from Cigarandpipes. The owner Joe Churchill has awesome service, prices and selection. And his cigars never ship dry. He always includes a Boveda pack. Be aware if you do buy online you may be required to give a drivers license for your first order. That’s not his rules that’s from the Feds and can be for any online sales from anywhere. I highly recommend Blanco cigars. He has a cigar for every palate and budget. I’ve met Dave Blanco too and he’s a great cigar maker. Also highly recommend stuff from Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, Foundation Cigar (both those owners started at Drew Estate which I also love). Oliva, Perdomo, Crowned Heads and Room 101 also make excellent stuff. All those brands can be found at Cigarandpipes. You can also buy direct from Blanco as he has a large portfolio. If you like mild to medium body & strength his Liga Connecticut and Primos Classic Natural and Sumatra would be great to try. My favorite by him is his Liga Maduro and it’s a medium body & strength cigar.

Also for your humidor use Boveda packs. They are dirt simple to use. Get a Digital hygrometer that is calibratable…those analog ones that come with most humidors are nothing more than decorative pieces of crap. Govee hygrometers on Amazon are cheap and they work. Also if you buy cigars with cedar sleeves on them(which many Fuentes have), take them off, they are mold makers. Wish cigar makers didn’t use them. Cigar Obsession on YouTube has lots of information on setting up humidors the right way. You can also just use a cooler or Tupperware and they hold humidity perfectly.

When I smoked I was fond of Sancho-Panza.I think I probably still have a few in my long neglected humidor.

There is a small cigar shop in Charleston, SC where they they wrap them right there in the shop. Used to buy for $3 each. They're now up to $6!! I've gone to a 6 pack of Grenidiars for $14!

I smoke cigars, and I smoke Fuente 8-5-8s like they were going out of style.

JR cigars has never been one of my preferred sources for exactly the reason you cite.

Old, stale, dry cigars that have probably been sitting in a container ship for months.

Other mild cigars include Montecristo White Series {mild Connecticut wrappers),

any of the My Father Connecticuts, and Fuente 8-5-8 or Curly Head Claros (green wrappers).

Ashton Symmetry is also a good mild cigar, although pricey.

Have never smoked, but I learned quite a bit about them from Rush Limbaugh. I think he only smoked high-end cigars because they had fancy hispanic or latin-sounding names. Cohiba, Arturo Fuentes, and others I can't remember.

We always used cigars for lighting firecrackers, so we rated them on how well they stayed lit.
