Hah, top this one. Taking mom and dad's car "out to the grocery store for a Coke". snerk snerk
I have a photo around somewhere of my old "cube" of a house in a trailer park with my 75 Matador parked out front. Picture would date back to 77 or 8 as well. Can't remember what the lot rent was but the house was a brand new 14 x 70 Liberty model that cost 10K furnished with REAL pine wood 2x6 padded couch, chair, and end tables with that frontier pattern fabric. 😁
This is the exact car I had but found online.
LOL! Back then I was driving a '52 Ford Customline 4 door. Had the 239CID Flathead engine and the 3 on the tree with an overdrive tranny. We could fit 8 of us kids and 4 cases of beer in that ol' thing! Dang but I wish I still had it...
In 1978, I also was living in a trailer purchased for $2800.00. It was my Soph. year of undergrad and had three bedrooms. I rented two rooms out to friends for 100 bucks each. That paid the lot fee, taxes and trailer payment with enough left over to cover all of my living expenses.
No Corvette for me, but I did have a 1975 VW Scirocco similar to the one below....fun little car.
I couldn’t afford one back then or today.
A friend bought a new Corvette in '78. That was the year of the Special Edition 25th Anniversary model. If I remember right, it was two-tone silver and black, 4-speed, 350 4 barrel. It cost $10,000.
For comparison, my cousin bought a '78 Silverado 4x4, loaded, for $7800.
First Corvette I ever drove, and I have only driven one other to date, a '73.
Cost sounds about right for a 1978. I purchased a brand new 1977 Monte Carlo in Orange, drove it about 1 month..and traded it for the 77 Corvette. I recall going to Ohio down US20 in the Corvette.. I was going pretty fast and came upon my 1st Amish buggy in my lane ... I locked up the Corvette and slide by the black buggy only to correct and go on...
