This type of December weather in Missouri breeds nothing but trouble. No tornadic weather producers at the moment but straight line winds are rough tonight. Reported gusts around the state from 50 to 90 mph.
Temp at the moment is 65. I'm opening my windows for some fresh, almost winter, air. Typically should be in the 30's.

Yup, too warm.
I am hating the yo-yoing of temperatures. In the 50’s one day then a high of 30 for a few days then the 50’s again.
Winds ahead of a storm front generally are parallel to that front. So a storm approaching from the northwest will have pre-frontal winds from the southwest. That in turn means warmer air, bringing about the common phrase of "the warm before the storm."
For you flatlanders, those warm, moist winds also cause a lot of instability and shear at the frontal boundary, the two ingredients for thunderstorms and tornadoes.
Yes, it has been a wild December....75 here yesterday.. Wind gusts in our area were 65 to 70 during a short storm last night. Woke up to calm, 40 degree temps this a.m. Lights out for 12 hours but up now.... need to get more gas for the generator...
Yeah, wow. Way too warm. Stay alert stay safe.
