Something pretty neat happened
My boy is home for Christmas and he showed me a WONDERFUL show on the Roku, called "The Chosen". It's a series that tries to portray the day to day life of Christ. I'm only on episode 4 or 5 but it's phenomenal.
In one episode it explores Simon when he was a fisherman, he owes taxes to the Romans, payable Monday, and he has the weekend to catch fish and pay what he owes, or he loses everything and goes to prison. So he's out there breaking his back around the clock, throwing the net, not getting a single fish. He keeps trying and soon some friends show up and they all work like dirty dogs throwing nets trying to help their friend. Finally Monday morning he realizes he's lost, so they head to shore. They're hungry, exhausted, lost hope, and there are some people on shore with a man talking to them. There's some dialog, Simon explains he's going to town to face his punishment because he can't pay, and the man (Jesus) suggests he throws his net on the other side of the boat. The fishermen all look at him like he's crazy, what could that possibly accomplish? But because they have nothing left to lose, they toss their nets on the other side and immediately there are so many fish they can barely pull it into the boat, it completely fills one boat to the point of capsizing, then they fill the 2nd boat until it's about to sink. Everyone is shouting and thanking God and completely overwhelmed by what they just saw. That's the story from John 21, and it goes on to show how the fish pay his debt and he asks Jesus how can I thank you? And Jesus just says "Follow me and I'll make you fishers of men". It was really neat how they showed the story, and very touching.
Now for the other half of the story, my boy has a fiance' in Manilla, wonderful girl, and she has a grandmother and auntie who live on South Leyte. Typhoon Odette blew through there Wednesday and completely obliterated the town where they lived. The fiance' called and was talking with my boy, she said there was no way to contact them and you could hear the fear in her voice. It wasn't until yesterday that she finally heard they were alive, but the townsfolk lost everything except the clothes they wore. It is completely obliterated and they're living on the beach. They desperately needed food and water, and then the fiance' sent my son a video, not knowing he and I watched that episode on "The Chosen". The video shows the town people wading out in the sea with a huge net and throwing it, and they start pulling it in and it's just like that Chosen episode. There are so many fish in the net they can barely pull it, water is splashing everywhere, and people are crying out and falling to their knees as the net comes ashore. My boy asked her to translate what they were saying and she got all choked up and said "they are thanking God".
What an amazing thing. THERE is the reason for the season. Thank you Lord!

We're spending our afternoon binging on "The Chosen" on Amazon today. Have watched select episodes in the past, but now we're starting at the beginning.
Friends and I have been watching it. Have finished first season and have started season 2. We also went and saw the Chosen Movie. Very good.
Not able to do any movie streaming from here with my over priced satellite internet service but I do enjoy a few good oldies on DVD that I own.
Recently watched "Risen" and "Jesus of Nazareth" which are IMHO both inspirational classics!
