So what are you doing the first day of 2022 ?
Eating, sleeping, vegging ? What's up ?
Watching the weather here...expecting up to .30" of ice during the day.. Changing to snow late afternoon and then the bottom will drop out and low single digits and wind chill below zero.
I started out the day sitting on the porch with Martha and watching the freezing rain/sleet slowly bow the cedar trees down. She seemed to be fine, so I headed in and worked out to get a good start on the new year.
Headed out after and could not find her. She was not in the shelter I built her under the back porch nor was she in the hollow tree she likes to hide in. I walked across the frozen yard and found her in the coral area between two round bales. She came running out to me and was a little wet so I carted her to the house and dried her off and set up her other shelter in the garage and put her in it. She was sound asleep in a matter of minutes. She will be in the garage until this ice stops and the weather changes. That settles her for now.
Ate some great leftovers from last night and am vegging in the basement. Currently listening to the Billboard Top 100 songs of 1979. Great tunes from my Soph/Jr. year of college. Lots of disco (Yeah, I used to do that 😲) but some great old Rock too....so I will be lost in my memories the rest of the afternoon I guess... Remembering old friends and family, most having already passed on. Good memories and bittersweet memories.
Going to clean some firearms and then start figuring out what my first purchase of 2022 will be !
So What's up with you all ? I hope your year is starting out well.

Going to spend the afternoon of the first day of the year same as I did the last day of the year, plowing snow with my Skid steer, except this will be cleaning my place instead of my #2 sons place.
Mule
Putting a new tailpipe on the Jeep.
Took the snow blower off the tractor and mounted the hay forks. Put about 600 pounds of hay in the feed bunks for the cows. Re-mounted the snow blower.
Working on a master bathroom linen closet. 35" wide, 20" deep, 8' tall. Room for lots of towels and TP! Got it all put together and edges routed flush and putty applied where needed. Gonna give that a couple hours to dry and then do the finish sanding and stain it up.
Just another day!
Got my snow moved late yesterday, just kicking back and doing some reading today.
This is the day that we take down all of the Christmas decorations and put them away for another year; job accomplished!
However, the 1950 Lionel Steam Set that runs around the Christmas tree is still in place (sans tree), so that the old kid in the house, me, can play with it for a little while longer!
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
Cut, split, and stacked a pickup load of firewood. Now sitting on the porch with the dogs. It's 72 degrees and I'm wearing shorts and a tee shirt.
watching it rain and bowl games
Just sold a rifle a few minutes ago for $7500.00. A good start to a great year.
Keeping things going in a circle at Magic Kingdom
A good start indeed !
Can' t just sneek out for a few minutes and bring her back what she wants !
All of the three you listed. Raining here so not much else to date.
78 here in SC and the air conditioning is on.
Currently sitting in a ground blind finishing out deer season . I have till 5:40 pm to shoot. With the knee surgery this is my last try for the season. Hat e to strike out for the first time in over 20 years .
Hope something rolls by soon !!!!
I watched three movies about submarines, read about the Mark 14 torpedo fiasco, and answered a machinegun question on the boards. Not a bad day.
Watching the Yellowstone marathon. ............ Good Show ! 😉😁
Playing catch up on the series.
Third season on today......................................... Beth is a hoot and a handful !
Like Jim Deere, couldn't waste a warm day. Greased & changed the oil in the backhoe then moved some dirt & stone.
Installed some upper kitchen cabinets with help from my daughter's fiance. Wife fixed some wonderful NY steaks for dinner. Relaxing in front of a stupid movie now.
gun show
Well its official , first time in over 20 years but I got skunked. Good thing I still have some venison in the freezer.
Sorry to hear that...I still have until the 4th for muzzleloader and handgun. Another week or so for archery/crossbow.
Our archery and muzzle load seasons start and end before regular gun . Eastern nc is too hot for hunting in Sept.
If it makes you feel any better I got skunked this year every time I had a Chance to go a heat wave would come thru and they were just not moving
I spent a good part of New Years day morning out in my unheated garage\shop cutting meat off of my hanging White Tail Christmas present. I can usually get the entire job done within the same few hours I spent but the temps out there are in the 20's and my poor hands stop working quickly!
I put my oversized propane heater near the cutting bench but my right leg about caught on fire while my left leg nearly froze off! 😁
I will just take my time and get all the meat off the carcass even if it takes me another week. As cold as it is, I sure needn't worry about spoilage.
Went to the gym
Temperature dropped from upper 60s to 30s in about an hours time around 1pmish so I got into the tractor turned on the heater and used disk harrow to get about 4 acres ready to seed later in this new year. been turning the dirt off in on for about a week. Drank a few beers and watched Yellowstone...
Been hunting with my 13 yr old daughter, since youth season in September.
In Iowa, youth tags are good for youth season, early muzzleloader, 1st and 2nd shotgun seasons, and late muzzleloader.
She hunts with a muzzleloader throughout all seasons. I hunt late muzzleloader.
Had 1 deer in front of her Christmas day, at 50 yards, and her primer was a dud. Recocked weapon twice.
Instead of me shooting the big doe, I handed her my weapon. She missed.
It's been way to warm here, until yesterday.
I went out alone in -8° weather this morning. Nothing.
9° out now, gonna try and talk the squab into going out with me.
I've been whitetail hunting since '83/'84 ish.
Never been skunked. I've come to think this might be my first year. Have until January 10th, but losing hope.
Great teaching moment for the daughter.
